I started redecorating the guest room a year ago. Just about the time I think I’m done I’ll see something else that I want to change or add. Another project! Changing the hardware in the guest room was my latest project.
Oh, who am I kidding? I am constantly painting, changing, or updating something. My son recently called and asked what I was doing. I told him I was painting the kitchen hutch to match the new kitchen walls. His response? “Of course you are!”
If you look closely here you can see what the hardware was like before. It was actually very pretty, it was just a little too modern for the rest of the room. Round, crackled clear pulls on the drawers with the original tiny brass pulls on the pull out shelf.
Both were okay. Just not on this piece or in this room!
My sister recently gave me three of these glass pulls. I really thought they would be perfect for the piece but the silver just wasn’t cutting it for me.
So I took them apart.
And spray painted them with my very favorite gold paint. This is my favorite for a lot of reasons. Primarily, it is the perfect color of gold, it doesn’t run, and the coverage is phenomenal! One can of this spray paint really goes a long way!
I laid the draw pull pieces out on a box and sprayed away.
Isn’t it amazing how changing a few small things in a room can give it a whole new feel? I guess it’s just like jewelry can change an outfit. I know that it’s a subtle change, but in the overall room it’s huge.
Here’s a close up of the hardware.
Now the hardware matches throughout the room. MUCH better!
Do you ever have one of those “what was I thinking?” moments? Looking at the before pics of this nightstand is definitely one of those! This change was definitely a “drab to fab” in my book! Changing the hardware in the guest room was such an improvement. I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner.
