Good morning! Do you know what day it is? It’s Ten on the 10th. Ten fun bloggers sharing ideas for under $10.00 on the 10th of the month. Today we thought it would be fun to share creative planters with you!
You know, something unusual and fun. Maybe something that you wouldn’t normally consider for a planter!
Once the group decided on this months theme, I began looking for my container.
I thought that it would be easy, as I don’t always use a traditional pot to plant my flowers in.
Last year I used this Better Home and Gardens silverware holder as a planter.
I’ve even converted a table into a planter!
I have to admit to being a little stumped.
Until I came across this old magazine rack while getting ready for a garage sale!
My first thought was to paint it something bright and colorful.
However, the more I thought about it the more I realized that I liked the black.
So I decided to leave it alone!
Here are the supplies I used:
Magazine rack
Spanish moss
Potting soil
FLowers
I needed to put something around the inside of the planter to hold all of the soil in.
A small wire, like chicken wire would work, but I chose to go with a more natural method instead.
Spanish moss.
Start on the bottom and add a thick layer of moss. Keep adding moss up the sides, making sure that there are no holes for the soil to fall out of.
I added moss until it was half way up the sides, forming a bowl.
Then I added soil.
Next, I continued to add moss up the sides until I had them completely covered to the top of my magazine rack.
Once this was done, I added flowers, back filling with soil.
Then I added more moss along the top and sides to make sure the moss was evenly distributed.
This is my creative planter!
I am so happy with it.
It is a perfect size for an outdoor table centerpiece.
After I finished my creative planter I found this container with a frog on it at Hobby Lobby.
9.99 less my 40% off coupon!
I love containers that have floral frogs on the top because it makes it super easy to make a flower arrangement!
So what did my creative planter cost?
Planter: free – dug out of the garage sale pile.
Spanish moss: free – I already had some around the house.
Soil: Free
Flowers: $7.00!
Until next time,
Tammy
Now, I hope that you will join me as I visit my fellow Ten on the 10th bloggers! I can’t wait to see what they have created!
