Welcome to October’s DIY Challenge! This months DIY Challenge was to make something from wooden pieces from a craft store. I chose to do a DIY Challenge Wooden Pumpkin.

This craft isn’t hard but it does have a lot of steps.
I’ve tried to break it down to make it easy for you!
Supplies:
Here is the list of supplies you will need in case you want to make a pumpkin!
1 bag of 6 wood slats 7.14″ x 2.18″ x 0.187″. I found mine here.
Acrylic Paint
Paint brushes
Scrapbook paper
Ribbon
Jute Twine
1 piece of wood
Scissors
Hot Glue gun and glue
Small miter saw
Design The Pumpkin
I laid 3 of my wooden slats together and drew on a wooden pumpkin shape.
Don’t stress of this, even real pumpkins have bumps and aren’t perfect!
Cut Out The Pumpkin
I cut out my pumpkin using a jig saw, although I will admit that if you have access to a skill saw it would be more fitting to use.
Since my pieces were small, I clamped them to the table to hold the wood in place while sawing.
Glue the Pumpkin Together
Put the 3 pieces of wood together, the flip them over making sure they fit together snugly.
Take another piece of wood and add wood glue to it and glue it horizontally to the middle of the 3 pieces of wood the make the pumpkin.
Let it dry completely.
TIP: Gently place something heavy on top of the wood pieces to make sure they adhere completely.
Draw The Center Of The Pumpkin
Draw the center of the pumpkin.
Be sure and draw it lightly as pencil lead will show through the paint.
Make a Template of the Center Of The Pumpkin
Using a piece of tracing paper, lay it on the pumpkin and trace your drawing of the center of the pumpkin.
Lay out your decorative paper with the back side up.
Place a piece of tracing paper on top.
Then put your template on top of the tracing paper.
Trace using a stylus or pencil.
Cut out your decorative piece.
Paint The Pumpkin
Paint your pumpkin stem and the entire pumpkin.
Front and back.
Adhere The Decorative Paper To The Pumpkin
Using Mod Podge, adhere your decorative paper to the center of your pumpkin.
Add Jute To The Outer Edge Of The Pumpkin Piece
Using a fine line of hot glue, glue your jute to the outline of the decorative paper.
Add A Cute Bow
Make the Pumpkin Base
Using your thin piece of wood cut off a piece the length of the bottom of your pumpkin.
Sand the edges well, then paint all sides of the wood black.
Glue the Base To The Pumpkin
Using hot glue, glue the pumpkin to the base.
You may need to hold it in place for a few seconds until it adheres.
Decorate With Your DIY Challenge Wooden Pumpkin
The pumpkin is finished and it’s time to decorate with it!
I loved doing this challenge.
Lot’s of steps, but super easy to make.
