Remember when you were younger and your mom made Christmas ornaments out of fabric and an embroidery hoop? Well, today I’ve got a new take on that with a DIY Christmas memory ornament.
Sadly, my father-in-law passed away a few years ago.
I was lucky enough to get a few of his shirts and use them to make teddy bears for the kids.
So I thought that it would be fun to use the scraps to make a few ornaments for the adults!
While I wanted the ornament to be a fun memory of my father-in-law, I also wanted it to be pretty and match all of the adults decor.
You know… not my Mama’s embroidery hoop ornament!
I decided the best way to do this was to use his shirt and add some fun Christmas decor!

Supplies
Old Shirt or piece of clothing Iron
Iron On transfer – you can order these from etsy or make a few for yourself
Iron On transfer vinyl – if making the transfer yourself
Hot glue
Ribbon
Scissors
Paint brush
Embellishments
Step 1
Cut 4″ squares from your shirt.
Design and cut out your Iron on.
I chose to use a design I bought on-line and cut it out on my cutting machine.
However, if you don’t have a cutting machine there a ton of place to purchase one.
Once you have your design, it’s simply a matter of just ironing it!
I used this cute little iron, but you can use a regular house hold iron too!
Step 2
My embroidery hoops were made of unfinished wood.
Using an Antiquing wax, I painted on a layer of wax and then wiped it off to create a stained wood look.
Step 3
Making sure your design is centered place your fabric into the hoop.
Once you have the fabric securely in the hoop, flip it over and cut off any excess fabric.
Step 4
Using about 5″ of ribbon, make a loop and glue to the top, back side of your ornament.
This creates a hanger for the ornament.
Lay your ornament onto a piece of felt, trace around the ornament.
Then cut the circle of felt out.
You will then hot glue the felt circle onto the back of the ornament.
Step 5
Now for the fun part – the embellishments!
I glued on two tiny pieces of greenery, added a red bow and some bells to finish off this ornament.
I think my DIY Christmas memory ornaments turned out pretty cute, don’t you?
