Next week my friends, Terrie from Decorate and More With Tip and Corine from Junk to Gems, and I are working on decorating our living rooms for Fall. So I’ve been making my design plan. Each year I buy a few new pieces to go with my old decor and spruce up some of the older worn out pieces. I also try and make a few new things to add to my fall decor collection. Today I’m sharing how to make a DIY Pumpkin Pillow
I recently saw this pillow at Kirklands and loved it.
There was only one tiny thing wrong with it.
It wasn’t the colors of any of my fall rooms!
So I decided to make one similar for my fall living room.
If you love it and it matches your decor it’s on sale right now!
Supplies
Here’s a list of the supplies that you will need:
Pillow cover
Fabric
Burlap Ribbon
Heat n Bond
Scissors
Iron
Glue
Jute
Chalk pencil
Step 1
Cut out pumpkins.
I found some clipart pumpkins on line that I printed out on my computer.
Once I had them cut out I laid them out on my pillow cover to make sure that they fit.
Step 2
Cut out 1 piece of fabric and 1 piece of Heat n Bond just larger than your pumpkin cutouts.
Once that is done, following the instructions on the package, iron your fabric and Heat n Bond together.
I used burlap ribbon for my pumpkin stems.
Cut them out and apply the heat n bond just like you do the fabric pumpkins.
Step 3
Pin your pumpkin to the Heat n Bond fabric and cut it out.
Step 4
Apply your pumpkin cutout.
Once you have your pumpkin cut out, remove the paper off of the back and iron the pumpkin onto the pillow.
Step 5
Glue Jute to the pumpkin outline.
Lightly draw your pumpkin lines onto the fabric pumpkin using a chalk pencil.
I used a chalk pencil because it’s easy to erase.
Using a fabric glue, apply the jute string to the pumpkin’s outline.
Work in 2 to 3 inch increments.
Continue gluing jute to the pumpkins until they are finished.
TIP: Use a glue that dries clear.
As you can see the blue pumpkin’s glue has almost dried and you can’t see any of the glue.
Let your pumpkins sit over night to ensure that they are completely dry, then add a pillow insert.
Your DIY pumpkin pillow is now complete!
I love how it looks in my fall living room.
It matches the rest of the room perfectly!
This project was super easy, if a bit messy on the glue part.
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the easiest and 10 being the hardest, I’d give this project a 4 or 5.
If you make a diy pumpkin pillow, be sure to share your finished project with me.
I’d love to see it!
Until next time…
