Welcome to the DIY Challenge. This month’s theme was to make anything as long as it was for Christmas. I chose to do a Dollar Tree Santa makeover.

Santa Decoration
I found this sweet Santa at the Dollar Tree and fell in love with his sweet face.
However, The red hat with the Ho Ho Ho didn’t really fit the decor I was going for.
Normally I would paint it, but I was sure the Ho Ho Ho would show through the paint.
So, Plan B. Cover it up with Scrapbook paper.
Supplies:
Scrapbook paper
Paint brush
Ribbon
Hot Glue Gun and Glue
Scissors
Craft knife
Step 1:
Choose your scrapbook paper.
I chose this pretty bold plaid.
Flip the paper over so that the back side is showing.
Then flip the Santa over also and lay it on the paper.
Trace around the Santa and then cut out where you traced on the paper.
Step 2:
Apply the scrapbook paper to the Santa using Mod Podge.
To apply the paper, paint a coat of Mod Podge onto the the Santa.
Then Place the paper on the Santa, smooth out any wrinkles.
Paint a coat of Mod Podge onto the paper to seal.
Step 3:
Apply glitter to the beard.
The beard had a blue shadow that was a bit dark for me.
So I decided to lighten it up a bit by adding more white holographic glitter.
To do this, I just added a coat of the Mod Podge to Santa’s beard.
Step 4:
Then sprinkled on the glitter.
Step 5:
Add a bow to Santa’s hat.
Instead of a pom pom on the end of Santa’s hat, I thought it would be fun to add a cute bow.
Using 3 different ribbons, I cut 4 three inch pieces of each color of ribbon.
Step 6:
Once the ribbon is cut, start stacking the ribbon in an X pattern one color at a time.
Example:
Starting with the white with red stripe ribbon, create a an X, then on top of that create an X with the green ribbon, then an X with the red ribbon. Repeat.
Step 7:
Pinch the ribbon stack in the middle and tie it off with a piece of twine.
Trim the ribbon on both sides to even up the bow.
Step 8:
Glue the bow to the end of the Santa hat.
I think that this would be super cute with a gold jingle bell in the middle of the bow!
Unfortunately, I didn’t have one the size I needed.
Step 9:
Create a hole in the scrapbook paper to hang the Santa.
Remember that there was already a hole at the top of the Santa with ribbon and a tag in it?
Flip your Santa over and find that hole.
Then using a craft knife, create a hole in the plaid paper to correspond with that hole.
I used some green twine to create a hanger.
Just thread the twine through the hole and tie a knot in the twine.
Step 10:
Enjoy decorating using your Santa.
My Santa is going to be part of a gift for a friend, so I hung him here to show you just how cute he is.
