I KNOW! It’s still the dog days of summer and we are talking about how to add fall into your home. It doesn’t seem right. But as a blogger we start planning, decorating and sharing early just for you!
Just in case you are like me and not quite ready to jump in the deep end of fall decor I’ve got 7 ways for you to gradually add fall into your home so it might not be so overwhelming.
1. Pumpkins
This is clearly a no brainer.
There are so many colors, styles, and shapes.
They can be stacked, stand alone, or piled together.
Pumpkins are real or fake, cloth, glass, ceramic, and even made out of sticks.
The possibilities are endless.
And visually, we know that when we see the pumpkins, fall is here!
So sprinkle them throughout the house, pile a few on the front porch and you are well on your way to fun fall decor that last from the beginning of fall all through Thanksgiving.
2. Candles
“Smellovison” is key!
We see a flame or fire and smell warm fall scents and we want to get all cozy and break out the pumpkin spice latte and don a cozy sweater.
Well, maybe not the sweater here in North Texas where it’s basically hot until Christmas, but you get where I’m going with this right?
So, break out the candles, scent ports, and wax melts and let fall begin!
3. Pillows and Throws
Nothing changes a room faster than changing out your throw pillows and adding a few warm and cozy throw blankets.
Not only does it instantly change your room, but it instantly will take you from Summer to Fall!
4. Signs and Chalkboards
I still like my chalkboard signs, especially in the fall.
Back to school, falling leaves, Halloween and Thanksgiving are prime themes to help design a great chalkboard.
And who doesn’t love a fall “farm” harvest sign?
5. Mums
I love decorating my front – and back- porch for each season.
Along with fall wreaths and pumpkins adding fall flowers is one of the best ways to welcome friends and family.
My go to flower for fall is a Mum.
So many warm fall colors!
When the mums are fading I will also add in violas and pansies as they look great in the fall and last all the way to Spring.
6. Bring the Outside In
This years color trends lean toward muted greens, mustards and oranges.
True fall colors.
Also, natural neutrals are fun additions also.
So what better way to add fall to the inside of your home than shopping the foliage in your yard?
Branches, colorful leaves, acorns, pine cones, and cornstalks.
I can feel fall already just thinking about adding these to my decor.
7. Metals
The warm tones of copper, galvanized buckets and gold accents really warm up and add a little elegance to your fall decor.
The warm burnished tones of copper and colorful fall leaves.
Or galvanized buckets on the front porch with colorful mums inside.
They also add texture to you decor.
Whenever I’m looking at a room I’m decorating and it’s not quite right, the first thing I do is add a metal decor piece.
9 times out of 10 it’s what is missing in my room.
Especially for fall!
I hope that these few tips on how to add fall to your home inspire and motivate you!
Think baby steps.
One little thing at a time and before you know it you will be ready for fall!
Until next time….
