How To Add Loft To Sofa Cushions

Sofa with new cushions

Happy Monday! Today my friend Terrie from Decorate And More With Tip and I are starting projects in our living rooms. It’s time to finally get everything put back together after the holidays. All week long we will be sharing the process of decorating our living room – I hope that you will join us! Today I’m sharing how to add loft to sofa cushions.

Here’s my family room sofa.

Even thought I’ve had it for a little over 8 years I still love it!

However, the cushions have lost a little of their loft and I hate that!

Rather than buying a new sofa I decided to add to the cushions to make them look new again.

Step 1

There are a few spots that need to be cleaned, so that is step one for me.

Supplies

To add loft to the cushions you will need the following supplies:

Cushion Wrap

1″ upholstery foam

Step 2

Now for some reason I lost the photos of the actual wrapping of the foam and the wrap.

So I’ll try to walk you through it using these arrows.

My plan was to start at the back of the cushion, above the zipper, bringing the foam forward.

Once I covered the top I was going to wrap it around the end of the cushion and bring the foam to the back toward the zipper, cutting the foam before I got to the zipper.

When I had the foam wrapped and cut, I was going to use the wrap to wrap around the cushion in the same way I did the foam.

I did this process on my first cushion and quickly came to realize that it was too much added material for my cushion cover to zip up.

So I decided to only add foam to the very top of the cushion.

It worked like a charm!

Now my cushions look practically brand new!

I couldn’t be happier.

Will this last long term?

I’m not sure, but so far it’s a very inexpensive fix and I was able to keep a sofa that I love!

Don’t forget to head over to Terrie’s and see her new fireplace project!
