Laurel Mississippi and Me

Laurel MS and Me

I recently had a big birthday and to celebrate the milestone I had a few friends whisk me off on a quick girls trip. It was soooo much fun! I thought you’d like to hear about Laurel Mississippi and me on my fun birthday trip!

I’ll tell you what you want to see and what you might want to skip.

First off Laurel is a small town of about 18,000 much like the town I grew up in.

So I felt right at home.

VRBO

We stayed in this 1930’s remodeled 5 bedroom, 3.5 bath home and I highly recommend it.

If you want to look it up go to VRBO it’s the 7th Ave Manor in Historic Downtown Laurel.

I took WAY too many photos to share of this home but our favorite place was the fire pit in the back yard.

It should have been called the Wisteria house because it was everywhere…

Not only was it beautiful, but the smell was divine!

The owners were so accommodating and the house was beautiful!

My friends called ahead and asked if they shipped birthday decorations to them would they decorate the house?

They said yes and  had everything decorated when we walked in!

The Scenery

We went on a morning walk our first morning there and we were in awe.

This tree is just a sample of the beauty this town holds.

We were really only in the historic district where most of Ben and Erin from Hometown renovate their homes so I can’t tell you what all of Laurel looks like.

But let me tell you, if you love looking at beautiful homes you would love this area.

Remember the wisteria?

Well the entire town was covered in Wisteria and newly blooming azaleas.

The entire town smelled heavenly.

NOT exaggerating at all!

Shopping

We started shopping in downtown Laurel at the The Magnolia Soap and Bath.

They had everything from shampoo to bath bombs.

They gave Lush a run for their money.

Of course we hit up The Mercantile, fun but was smaller than you might think.

Been there, got the T-shirt.

The Scent Library is across the street from the mercantile and reminds me of a gentleman’s library filled with leather sofas, warm wood, brass and smelled wonderful.

We hit up the Scotsman Co too.

They were filming so I didn’t take pictures but did pick up some wood wax and oil for my husband.

Hands down my favorite store to shop in was Southern Antiques.

The name is a little misleading .

Yes, there are antiques, however there were more new, unusual, gorgeous items than anything.

It was hard not to buy a ton of stuff.

AND the people working there was super friendly.

This is a must stop if you love beautiful home decor.

Restaurants

Hands down my favorite was Pearls.

Home cooking. Nuff said.

Other notables:

The Knight Butcher – skip the burger and buy the Cajun Beef Jerky. So good.

The Loft – This is a local hang out so go early for dinner. Reservations must be made the day before, so go early or call early.

Call Laurel Home Tours and ask for a Home Town tour with Robert.

Robert knew EVERYONE! ( including our VRBO owner)

Not only did he know everyone, but he gave a very thorough tour of not only homes Ben and Erin had renovated but knew the history of the town.

Well worth the money and it’s the perfect way to see the historic district .

We drove in on a Wednesday ( it’s an 8 hour drive from Texas) and left on Saturday morning.

It was the perfect amount of time to see all the sights, shop and relax back at the rental.

Before we knew it, it was time to head home.

I can honestly say it was the perfect girl trip for a big birthday.

Until next time….

Tammy
