A few weeks ago, I shared that I replaced the quilt on my bed. Which led to me buying a new dust ruffle. Unfortunately, the dust ruffle was a little too short. So, I bought a new bed. At this point, I am sure that you know where I’m going. Now, none of the furniture matches. Which leads me to painting the nightstands!
Now before you think that I’ve totally lost my mind by buying a new bed to fit the dust ruffle, you should know that I have been thinking of replacing my bedroom set since I moved into my house 12 years ago. In fact, I bought a new set when we first moved in, however it didn’t fit into the hallway going into my bedroom!
I saw this headboard and fell in love with it.
The only downside, it was white!
I knew that my existing furniture wouldn’t match at all
Before I go much further, I must tell you that it has taken me forever to get up enough courage to paint my bedroom furniture.
Even though my business is painting furniture, I could never bring myself to just do it!
So, I pulled my big girl panties up and got on with the program!
I decided to start by painting the nightstands.
Forgive me, I always forget to do a good before picture of my projects.
Apparently, I get so excited to get started I loose my mind.
I chose Annie Sloane Chalk Paint to paint my bedroom furniture, mainly because it’s cold and wet outside.
Which means no painting in the garage.
ASCP has no smell and dries almost instantly, most pieces can be painted in one day!
In the picture above, this is the first of two coats.
It took me under 30 minutes to clean and paint each nightstand.
After I had painted the second coat on each nightstand and let it dry, I lightly sanded them to give them a distressed look to match the headboard.
I let the pieces sit overnight, just to make sure that they were good and dry.
I chose to finish my nightstands by waxing them.
Since the nightstands were a little whiter in color than my headboard, I add a tiny bit of dark wax to the clear.
Now, the nightstands and the headboard match perfectly!
I love them.
Surprisingly, The Hubs does too!
Painting the nightstands was the easy part, now for the highboy and the dresser.
