Rearranging the Furniture in the Living Room

Rearranging the furniture in the living room is problematic for several reasons. A corner angled fireplace. A Wall of windows. An open concept. A stairwell wall. See what I mean?

Over the years I’ve come to terms with furniture placement in this challenging room. Except for the stairwell wall.

Most of the time I didn’t have anything there, other than a little artwork and a clock, as it was a walkway. It just looked so bare!

I also wanted to lighten up the space up. Get away from the old world colors.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve bought a few things to help with that, a new sofa, a rug and some brighter accessories. Totally love all of those.

I wanted to paint but The Hubs frowned upon that.

So I moved this painted sofa table to that wall.

And I loved it. For a little while. But, something just seemed off.

I thought about painting the coffee table, however the rest of the furniture in the room was dark. It didn’t make sense to paint it, unless I was going to paint all of the furniture white.

I wasn’t sure I could live with that white, white on all the furniture pieces.

So I lived with it.  I would rearrange the accessories every so often, in hopes that I would love it again.

Then I read The DIY Home Planner by KariAnne Wood and realized that while the sofa table was okay, what I loved was that the stairwell wall wasn’t empty any more.

I didn’t love the very white table.

My budget didn’t include new furniture, so I started shopping my house.

I had inherited this piece from my Dad earlier in the year and it had been sitting in a bedroom until I could find it a home.

I decided to give it a try.

You know what? I love it! It totally warms up that space up.

Is it an exact match for the rest of the dark furniture? No. It’s hard to see, but it does have a black antiquing, which ties it all together.

I’m not a matchy-matchy type person in my decor so, for me, it works.

I’m still tweaking the accessories and I’m thinking of using some beautiful baskets for the shelving.

I wanted to live with it awhile before making that decision.

I’m so glad that I read The DIY Home Planner. If I hadn’t I wouldn’t have thought of rearranging the furniture in the living room, that’s for sure!

The DIY Home Planner comes out this March. Trust me, this is one workbook that you don’t want to miss!

Until next time….
