Record rainfall in Texas has kept me from working outside. What’s a girl to do? Well, work inside of course. I decided that instead of light therapy, I needed some summer in the living room!
One of the easiest ways bring summer in the living room was to change out my pillows. I made these pillows last summer. I still love them, but I was ready for something a little different.
So I made these leopard pillow covers. A little plain…
I could add this ribbon flower lamp shade magnet for a little interest if I decided they were too plain. I liked them, they made a great neutral, but I didn’t love them… ya know? And I felt like it was a bit dark for summer.
Then I found these turquoise pillow covers at H&M. They screamed summer to me. I was truly impressed with not only the price but the quality. I will definitely order more pillow covers from them again.
I already had some turquoise accents in the living room, I love the pattern – it reminds me a little of the tropics and the beach – and best of all the price was so good I couldn’t make them myself for that price!
Much, much better!
As you all know I have a black thumb with indoor plants. At the risk of jinxing myself, I am proud to say that I have kept a fern alive in my kitchen for almost two years now. A record for me! High on my success, I have been toying with adding a live plant to the living room. What better way bring summer in the living room than with a plant?
Today I found this little fella and knew it was meant to be. Maidenshair is one favorite plants. So lacey and delicate looking.
I had an old terra cotta pot that I spray painted black.
then spray painted the rim gold…
I wanted it to match this tray that I made this past winter.
I love that the gold matches the little bits of gold accents that I have around the room.
I still have a few more projects in mind to add some turquoise and maybe the blush pink that is in the pillow…but I am already feeling my living room take on a lighter, easier tone for the summer. Time to kick off the flip flops and have a glass of sweet tea!
Until next time….
