I just got back from Oklahoma where we celebrated my sweet Daddy’s 76th birthday. After months of working on the inside, my sister Terri has begun working on the exterior of her bungalow. With that in mind, I was on Pinterest looking for ideas to share with her and saw where someone had taken a full size bed and turned it into a porch swing. Well, you know we had to try one! I have to say that Terri’s porch swing turned out pretty cute!
Our royal carpenter, The Hubs, was shown the Pinterest version, I gave him my idea for Terri’s porch swing and then told him to go for it. I think he did a fantastic job!
Once he was done I consulted my sister on her vision of the porch swing. She wasn’t too picky. She just wanted it to look old and be navy. So we painted the swing Napoleonic Blue. Left the white trim white. Distressed the heck out of it and sprayed many coats of poly to weather proof it.
You can see how much we distressed it.. a lot! I let some of the gray from the previous paint job show through as well as the original stain.
She found the cutest pillows at Wal Mart for FIVE DOLLARS each! $5.00! Bargain shopping must run in the family.
Terri wants to add a rug, with the same bright colors that are in the pillows and then decide on what other decor items her porch needs. I think that’s a really smart thing to do. It’s like buying the dress before you decide on the jewelry!
Here’s the front view of her front porch. While she still has a lot to do…. landscaping, brick and mortar repair, paint her front door etc. she is well on her way to a beautiful front porch.
Terri’s porch swing brings back sweet memories of growing up in the same neighborhood where we had a porch swing on our front porch. Lots of lazy days and nights were spent on that porch swing. I hope that Terri gets to slow down and do a lot of swinging on her porch swing too!
Until next time….
Tammy
