Patina & Paint

The Tale of Two Dust Ruffles

Yesterday was definitely a Monday. I had two things to do, just two. Make a quick trip to Lowe’s to get paint to finish up a child’s table and chairs. And plant some plants I purchased on Saturday. Neither of those happened. Instead, my gas cook top blew up. Which leads me to the tale of two dust ruffles. Have I confused you yet?

If my BFF Roxanne had been with me, it would definitely been another of our Lucy and Ethel adventures. Unfortunately, this one is all on me!

My day started at 7:00 a.m. I was sitting watching the news, drinking hot tea and catching up on my  e-mails.

About 7:50 a.m. I was just about to go get ready for my day, when I heard my gas cooktop doing that “tick, tick, tick” thing it does when you light it.

Hmmm…. maybe I accidental hit it when I was making my tea?

So, I go in and see that all of the knobs are in the correct position. It stops ticking.

I took two steps away and it starts the ticking again.

As I turned back,  I was in time to see one of the knobs start flaming and smoking.

Yep,  it caught on fire!

Lucky for me, It put itself out.

I totally freaked out!!

Long story short, The Hubs came home from work and we spent the morning in search of a new cooktop.

While The Hubs was installing the new range, I had four deliveries.

Two of which were new dust ruffles that I had ordered.

Which leads me to the tale of two dust ruffles.

The first was for my pink flamingo guest room.

It has always bugged me that the quilt never reached the floor.

I found a dust ruffle that was perfect, as it matched the white curtains – pompoms and all!

I was so excited, until I put it on the bed, it was about an inch too long.

Now, I’m thinking that the quilt is too big also.

For the last few years I had this black, burlap tailored bed skirt on the master bed.

But black, y’all! It shows every piece of lint, dust, hair… you name it.

I was so over that!

Recently, I saw this one in a magazine and fell in love with it.

It is gathered, lined and has a really nice cotton look.

I couldn’t wait to iron it and put it on the bed.

However, once it was on the bed, I couldn’t help be a little disappointed as I think it about an inch too short.

Seriously, should I live with it awhile?

My solution?

I bought a new bed!

More on that to come, I promise.

One good thing, I did find time in all of that hot mess to give the table and chairs a final coat of white paint.

Until next time….
