Laundry Room Makeover: Part 1

Laundry room makeover

I don’t know about you, but here at the castle we are taking social distancing seriously.

We are only leaving the house for groceries, doctor and dental appointments and other necessary items. Since I am home for the most part, I decided to tackle a room makeover that I have been putting off.

Today I am happy to share our laundry room makeover part 1!

laundry room before

When we moved into our new castle this was what the laundry room looked like.

Laundry room before

Lots of beige. Antiqued cabinets and walls that no matter how much you cleaned them, they looked dirty. A 80’s style boarder trim. And faux brown stone linoleum floors.

black and white tile

The day after we took possession we had every floor replaced. The laundry room received one of my very favorite tiles ever! This black and white encaustic tile. We put it in the guest bathroom at the old house and I loved it so much I had to use it in our new home.

sink, border wall paper

The floors were done in one week and I kid you not this wall paper border and towel bar came down 2 days later! And then I got side tracked with things like unpacking and the holidays. So the laundry room sat just like that until the middle of January.

hanging a chandelier

The laundry room had this HUGE industrial florescent light fixture that I hated from minute one. Besides not being the prettiest light fixture, it also gave off a weird yellow light that flickered. I had brought this fixture with me from our previous laundry room, so when The Hubs asked if I wanted to change the florescent light out I couldn’t get this pretty one unboxed fast enough.

laundry room

The light fixture exchange was back in January. This sad little room sat just like that until three days ago. With  social distancing, I thought that if I couldn’t be productive out and about, at least I’d be constructive at home.

laundry room before

I can’t believe I didn’t get a better picture of this. Oh, who am I kidding? I do it all the time. Do you ever get so excited about a project that you loose your mind? You do? Oh, good. I’d hate to be alone! I started by painting the ceiling a clean, crisp white.

See arrow…

Next, I painted the walls this beautiful soft color. Sherwin Williams Tradewind. So calming. It reminds me of birds eggs!

laundry room cabinets

Pardon my mess! Once the walls were painted, it was time to paint the dated antiqued cabinets. I removed the doors and painted everything with two coats of Sherwin Williams Pure White in semi gloss cabinet and trim paint.

laundry room after

I gave a few decor pieces, like the paper towel holder and the bird house a little face lift.

laundry room, window

Made a new curtain for the window and added a bit of spring decor.

laundry room after

My laundry room makeover part 1 is in the books! But there is still more to come!

The counter top will be replaced. The Hubs is going to build a countertop out of some old barn wood of my Dad’s.

I want to put a shelf between the washer and dryer and the cabinets, but not until next month.

I have drawer handles ordered.

And… the part that I can’t wait for – I’m tiling the sink wall from the counter top to the ceiling in bright white subway tile!

Stay tuned for Part 2, coming soon!

Until next time….
