DIY Gingerbread Tree
Happy Friday! Today my friends and I are sharing our Christmas kitchen countertops. Gingerbread is all the rage this Christmas, just in case you didn’t know. Some of the gingerbread items can be a little pricey, so I decided a DIY gingerbread tree would be perfect for my kitchen.
I was recently at my Dollar Tree when I saw these wooden trees.
The minute I saw them I knew that they would make the perfect DIY gingerbread trees.
And they were only $3 each!
My first thought was to sand down the design on each tree and paint it with gingerbread colored paint.
But what if I hated it?
So I decided to do the backside.
Supplies
Dollar Tree Trees – there are 3 styles however I was only able to find 2 – so I am on the hunt.
Acrylic paint – gingerbread color or paints to mix to make the color of gingerbread.
Folk Art Dots paint in white
Chalk pencil
Step 1
Paint the tree with light grey or “primer grey” paint.
Once the gray paint dries, top that with your gingerbread color of paint.
It only took 1 coat because I primed it first.
My kind of craft!
Step 2
Using a chalk pencil, draw on the pattern that you want to paint onto your tree.
I love using chalk pencils as they allow you to erase easily.
Step 3
Using your Folk Art Dots paint, paint over your design.
Don’t worry about it being perfect, real icing isn’t perfect either.
I can’t believe how easy and pretty my DIY gingerbread trees turned out.
Aren’t they pretty?
I am so glad that I only painted one side, just in case I want to use the green side next year.
