My Redneck Pool is Open

My redneck pool is open!

redneck pool 3I get so excited every year to get the pool up and running. My Hubs? Not so much.  Deep down inside I know that the pool has grown on him. But it’s taken about 5 or 6 years.  He hated it so much the first year I took myself down to the Dollar Tree and bought a dozen or so pink flamingos to put around the pool.  Needless to say I don’t have those anymore, they have mysteriously disappeared over time…

The first few years is was pretty plain. Boring grey sides with a flock of pink flamingos.  I get why the hubs hated it. Last year I saw a post on Pinterest where they used bamboo fencing to cover the sides and built a “swim up” bar out of old pallets. I had to have it! I bought three rolls of the bamboo fencing and covered the sides. And the hubs built the swim up bar out of scrap wood. Life was good at the castle.

This year when I pulled the swim up bar out of storage it looked a little worse for wear. I thought I had put a protective top coat on it, but it sure didn’t look like it. So it was time to paint.

I didn’t want it to look to shiny and new. I wanted it to have an old time worn beachy feel. I only put one coat of paint on it, not getting too crazy if I missed a few places or if you could see the wood shining through. The final result? A swim up bar that looks nice and clean, but a little worn at the same time. Perfect!

I kept the cute  baskets I had from last year and loaded them up with everything we will need for summer fun. ( I am missing a chalkboard sign! I think the cat has been having way too much fun pool side!)  We have all sorts of sunscreen, toys and lights.

Speaking of lights. What’s a pool without a light show in the evening? These little disks for $4.00 at Walmart are really cool and look a lot better  than this picture shows. Super fun in the evening.

Now that the redneck pool is officially open, I hope you’ll excuse me. I’ve got some sweet tea and a raft calling my name!

    1. Thanks Laura. I can’t believe the difference it made. I wish I could find the post I found on Pinterest to give them credit! That woman is a genius!

    1. Rita – you are so right about keeping cool. It’s already in the upper 90’s! Yikes! I love the lights too. And the best part – they are water activated so no having to turn them off and on!
