The Agony of Defeat

You all know that I occasionally like to try a craft off of Pinterest. Fab or Fail. Well, let me tell you that this one was so far beyond a fail that I’m calling it the agony of defeat!

It’s Ten on the 10th! Which means ten of my blogger friends and I are sharing ideas with you on the 10th of the month, for under $10.00! Woo Hoo!

wreathYou’ve all seen the cute embroidery hoop wreaths on Pinterest, right? Me too. I have resisted making one because it reminded me of the wreaths we used to make in the 80’s. Been there done that!

Then I saw a beautiful one on Pinterest and thought that I could make one like it for under $10.00.

I did everything the tutorial said.

Following the directions, I separated the hoops, only using one.

Then I attached greenery to the hoop using wire.

ribbon

I added scraps of ribbon and attached two flowers of my choice.

And this is what I came up with.  Hmmm….

I even added a small welcome sign, that I had previously made, in hopes that I would like it more.

Nope, still reminds me of the 80’s.

Was I able to make it for under $10.00? Yes, I was.

Embroider hoop:  $2.39

Flowers:  $7.99, 50% off. Total cost $4.00

Greenery: $4.99, 50% off. Total cost $2.50

I already had the scraps of ribbon and the wire.

Total cost for the wreath was less than $9.00!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad. I’m just stuck with the whole 80’s thing. So, for me, this was a fail.

Yep, the Agony of Defeat!

However, I do have a few things that cost less than $10 that I LOVE!

scissors

These Petals and Blooms scissors from Hobby Lobby are the cutest!

scissors

Three sizes, three different patterns with two different tips.

Cost: $12.99.

Y’all know I have a 40% off coupon! Three super cute scissors for under $10.00. Girl squeal!

magnetic door hanger

I used to hang my wreaths with an over the door hanger. Over time this created a problem with my door closing properly.

Then, I found this magnetic hanger.

Let the heavenly choir sing! Peeps, I am telling you this was a game changer.

This is what it looks like on your door.

I love that I can put it up anywhere on the door, keeping the peep hole uncovered.

Mardi Gras wreath

Not only is the placement adjustable, it’s also sturdy and will hold a fair amount of weight.

Best of all, I’ve not had one problem with the door closing. The Hubs loves this too!

Now that I’ve shared the fab and the agony of defeat with you, I hope that you will join me in visiting my friends to see their fabulous ideas!

  1. Oh, friend…we’ve all had that project that just didn’t measure up to our expectations. I think in this case you are being a little too hard on yourself. I think it’s super cute. I haven’t tried an embroidery hoop wreath yet, but it’s on my list.

    Happy Saturday.

  2. Your wreath is cute, but I have also had quite a few ” fails” from Pinterest – especially with recipes!! Maybe if you add a little more greenery it might perk it up a bit?? Your mardi gras wreath is lovely!

    1. I’m with you on the recipes! For the most part I’ve found some that I love, there have been some that were total disasters. Thanks, I love the Mardi Gras wreath too. I’ll try more greenery….Thanks!

  3. I know what you mean about been there/done that. I’ve thought the same thing about embroidery hoops but this wreath is adorable and I don’t think it looks 80s at all. Thanks for sharing. I love it.

  4. I have wondered about those wreaths. Some of them look very chic and I’m not sure what the secret is. I really like the one you made…that ribbon is gorgeous.

The hanger is so cool too!

    1. I love that hanger too Stacey. My Husband loves it even more since he isn’t having to adjust the door anymore. The ribbon is one of my fav’s…

  5. I think your hoop wreath is outstanding, but I know what it feels like to create something that just doesn’t measure up in your mind. Been there. I love that wreath hanger. I have one right now, but it is ugly. I need a prettier one for sure!

    1. Thank you Laura. You are too sweet! Oh, a Mexican wreath theme…. I can just imagine the color! Now you have my mind working…

  6. I think it is a lovely wreath Tammy. No need to feel defeated, And I also think we don’t all need to go the burlap route. Some of us really like to see lots of color in the springtime. Me included especially after such a harsh winter.

  7. Tammy, I think your wreath is lovely! I had no idea that there was such a thing as a magnetic wreath hanger! Did you find it at Hobby Lobby? My front door needs painting and I’m going to put one of those on it!

    1. Jane,
Yes the magnetic wreath hanger is at Hobby Lobby. I did notice that they now have two colors also. I really do love it!
