Pumpkin Luminaries
Woo Hoo! It’s October. Which means it’s time to get our Halloween on. Today I’m sharing a quick and easy Halloween craft with you that is great for any age. Painted pumpkin luminaries.
Honestly, the hardest part about making these luminaries was finding them.
I first saw them on-line painted differently and thought they were so cute.
I also thought they were a lot bigger.
The search in every Dollar Tree near me was on, but finally I stumbled across them and realized I may have missed them do to the size.
Supplies:
Wooden Pumpkin Luminary
Paint
Paint brushes
Stems of your choice ( I used both wooden sticks and large round wooden beads.)
Hot glue gun
Hot glue
Raffia
Halloween embellishments
Scissors
Paint The Luminary
Step one was to remove the sliding back and paint the entire outside of the box.
This may take 2 coats.
Next, paint the inside of the box.
I chose to paint it a metallic gold so that the light would reflect better.
TIP: lightly paint the edges of the slide out back of the luminary. It’s already a tight fit, so if you get too much paint it won’t slide on or off easily.
Antique the luminaries
Since it is Halloween, I wanted my boxes to be a little more scary.
I dipped a paint brush into black acrylic paint, wiped most of it off on a paper towel, and dry brushed the edges and around the face of the luminary.
This gave it the messy, creepy ( but cute) look I was going for.
Add The Pumpkin Stem
Next, add the pumpkin stem of your choice.
I used sticks cut into 1″ – 1 1/2″ pieces and round wooden beads for mine.
You could also use small drawer knobs, marbles, cinnamon sticks etc.
Anything that would give it the look that you are going for.
I hot glued my stems to the top of the box.
Embellish the Luminary
To finish off my pumpkin luminary, I added a raffia bow at the top.
Just hot glue it on or you could even tie it on.
Then I cut the “ring” part of a spider ring off.
Glue the spider part of the ring to your luminary.
That’s it!
Just pop a tea light inside your box and let the Halloween decorating begin.
It’s such a super easy fun craft, it’s hard not to make tons of them.
I hope that this inspires you to make a few pumpkin luminaries of your own and if you do be sure to send me a picture.
I’d love to see what you create!
Until next time….
Love this! But which dollar tree had them?
