Boujie On A Budget

 

Recently, I offered to help my sister paint her bathroom for her birthday. Since she decorates like I do, it became  – well, if we are painting we might as well do wallpaper, if we are doing wallpaper… You get my drift. At the end my sister loved it so much she called her bathroom “boujie”. So we are calling her bathroom boujie on a budget.

This is where we started.

Dark Yellow Small Bathroom

Her house is a 1940’s bungalow.

2 bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen, dining room, living room, and laundry room.

At some point someone remodeled the bathroom and boarded up the window.

Can you say dark?

And the yellow paint color, while true to that period somewhat, when paired with the tile just looks dirty.

So my sister decided it need to have a mini makeover that didn’t break the bank.

Odette Arboretum Wallpaper

My sister chose Odette Arboretum Wallpaper from The Painted Paper Co.

This was her one splurge and boy did it pay off.

It is gorgeous, has a great weight and other than trying to match the pattern it was relatively easy to hang.

So what color did we paint the walls?

Sherwin Williams

Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black.

I know that some of you are thinking that if I thought the yellow made the space look small black surely will.

However, it actually pushed the walls out making the room look much larger in person.

And talk about a big bang for your buck?

The first thing I did was paint three walls black.

Once that was completely dry, we hung the wallpaper.

Next The Hubs helped out by hanging new sconces and a Facebook market place gold mirror.

We (He) also changed the plug ins and wall switches to black so that they seamlessly blended into the design.

We spray painted air vents and tissue holders.

New art was made and hung.

The cabinet above the toilet received a new coat of paint and new knobs.

And the end result?

A boujie on a budget bathroom!

There are still a few things my sister wants to change like new rugs, towels and painting the trim white, but boy what a difference 4 days make.

Most importantly, for the first time since she moved in, she loves it.
