Library Up-Date
This library up-date has been almost 3 years coming! The previous owners used this room as a formal dining area. However, it was way too small an area for a formal dining room for me. Plus, we LOVE books. The plan was to make it into a library. Built in book cases with a murphy bed in the center for guests.
And we kind of did.
Without all of our books.
Or the bed.
Finally, last week we decided we had had enough.
It was time for a real library.
The Plan
So how did we decide to up-date the library?
Well, in phases.
I started searching the internet to get ideas for the kind of library I wanted.
This warm, dark library really grabbed my attention.
So did this one.
I decided that instead of a light bright space like much of the rest of our home, I want the library to be warm, cozy and fun.
Both of these inspiration rooms have just the right amount of feminine and masculine decor.
Which is perfect!
Step 1
Paint.
To give me that warm, cozy feel I decided I wanted to paint the room a warm charcoal color.
Like flannel!
Cracked Pepper was a color that both my husband and I liked.
Step 2
Shelving.
The biggest reason we haven’t built in shelving across the entire back wall is time.
We finally threw in the towel and decided to do what we did in our last office and start with pre-built shelving.
I really wanted Billy shelving from IKEA.
However, it’s currently unavailable.
So we decided on the Hemnes shelving unit.
What To Keep
Now time to decide what stays and what goes.
We are keeping these black and white buffalo check chairs and the curtains you see in this photo.
The armoire that you see in the left hand corner is going.
We are also keeping the piano and guitars in this room.
Everything else is a great big question mark.
At least until I get the walls painted and the shelving put up.
I’ll also be using my cowhide rug.
This isn’t mine, but it is similar.
So here we are, taking the room apart and getting ready to paint.
Phase one will be starting ASAP!
Once I get it all painted and put back together I will be sure and share it with you!
Until next time…
I can’t wait to see how this room turns out. It sounds so pretty. Love a good project!
I can’t wait to see your makeover, Tammy❣️I will probably swipe some of your ideas, always so warm & cozy❣️🌺❣️
Thanks Paula! Phase 1 will be live Tuesday~
