Pool Noodle Garland

Pool noodle garland

Happy Tuesday!  I’ve been thinking about Memorial Day and how I want to decorate my back porch. Of course, it has to be easy, inexpensive, but look cute. Since it’s the Creative Craft Hop today I thought I’d share  how to make the easiest pool noodle garland that you will ever make. Not only is it super cute but it’s easy too.

Creative Craft Hop 2

Great BIG shout out to  Sara from Birdz of a Feather for hosting the hop this month. She truly rocks!

Also, if you are hopping over here from Terrie’s ( Decorate And More With Tip)   –  I’m so glad that you are here.

FAIL!

Before I show you how I made my garland, let me show you my fail.

I saw the cutest pool noodle garland on Pinterest where they took 1 red, 1 white and 1 blue noodle, and turned them into a popsicle to make the garland.

Well, I couldn’t find those color of pool noodles.

So I painted them, cut them, glued them and this is the mess I made!

Starting Over

I tossed the first version and started over.

I  cute 5 pieces of pool noodle 6″ long.

Painting pool noodles

Paint

To paint the pool noodles, I started at the top and worked my way down.

The solution to getting the noodles to look like a popsicle was to simply paint stripes using  multi-purpose paint.

Just tape two inches down, paint.

Dry.

Repeat until the entire noodle was painted.

Adding a popsicle stick to a piece of pool noodle

Adding the Stick

To add the popsicle stick, I cut a small piece of the noodle, stuck the stick into it, then stuffed it into the end of the noodle.

No glue needed!

Using an ice pick to make hole in the popsicle noodle

Using an ice pick, I made two holes and ran twist ties through them to make it easy to add to the garland.

Now the popsicles were done, it’s time to put it all together.

Making the Garland

First off, please excuse the black cord under my cabinet – we are working on the irrigation system and I was reluctant to move it while they are working on it!

Using Command strips, I attached this red, white and blue garland.

Adding the Fun Stuff

These patriotic bows were the perfect embellishment to go with my popsicles!

Adding bows to a garland

I decided to use 3 popsicles and two bows for my garland embellishments.

This part was super easy.

Just add the bows…

And then add in the popsicles!

And this is the finished pool noodle garland.

I couldn’t be happier and I’m ready to finish decorating the rest of my back porch.

Bring on the Memorial Day festivities!

I hope that you will join me in visiting Gail at Purple Hues and me to see her beaded wire floral candleholder  and then visit the other crafters as well.

Until next time…

  1. These are awesome Tammy; what a way to recover from that first fail! By the way, I didn’t even notice the irrigation cord until you pointed it out; it blends right in 🙂

  2. Your garland is super cute and quite unique, Tammy! Your red, white, and blue painting of the noodles look professionally done! Each one looks as if they were bought that way! You certainly nailed that technique! Great job!
