Three Chairs Become a Bench

Three chairs become a bench. I hit the neighborhood garage sale recently and bought three white chairs.bench 13

The minute I saw them I thought they would make a great bench.

This is what they looked like when I bought them.  Really gross! They were already white and distressed, so I thought once the material was removed and the wood cleaned up I would be able to use the existing finish. WRONG! The wood did not clean up. Definitely needed a new paint job.

Once that was done I had the royal carpenter, The Hubs, put all of the chairs together. ( I swear I had pictures of this part, but for the life of me I can’t find them. I really have to get a better system!) Basically, this is what he did:

He positioned the chairs so that the front legs all lined up together. Then made a template of the seating area that he that he would use to cut out a seat for the bench.  Then, using the template, he cut a  piece of plywood for the seat. Once that was done he screwed the seat onto the chairs. Ta Da! Three chairs become a bench!

Time to add foam padding and cover the bench with material.

Now for the backs. I covered the existing  wooden backs and foam padding as they were in pretty good shape. I used the black and tan fabric for the back part of the panel and the same tan fabric for the front.  Once all three were covered I stapled them to the chairs.

Three chairs become a bench.  I love the clean lines of the backs of the chairs. Yet the legs have great beautiful detail.

Here’s a close up of the finish.  White with gray dry brushed paint.  And a lot of distressing.

Y’all know that the black and tan fabric is one of my favorites. My living room curtains are made of it!

Bench 5

I love that this bench is “neutral” but the back panels give it a lot of personality.

Bench 1

This bench would be great in a dining room, an entry way or even at the foot of the bed. Ya gotta love versatility!

Until next time….
