Celebrating Mardi Gras

alligator Mardi Gras decor

I love celebrating Mardi Gras! The bright colors, the beads, the King Cake… did I mention the King Cake? But more than all of the pretty things and great food,  what’s not to love about celebrating the wise men finding Baby Jesus?

Not everybody celebrates Mardi Gras.

In fact, until we visited my husbands best friend many years ago we didn’t either.

But it only took a few days of being in the south for us to keep up the traditions  that were shared with us on that trip.

Mardi gras decor on the mantle

The  Fireplace Mantle

We don’t do a lot of decor, but what little we do is  so much fun.

I mean, almost anything goes.

Which make decorating fun and easy.

In our living room, the fireplace mantle is dripping in Mardi Gras decor.

Mardi Gras Wreath

A large wreath is hung on top of the mirror.

Mardi Gras Mask and ornaments

Masks, fuzzy garland, ornaments, and fleur de lis decorations fill the top of the mantle.

The only criteria for decor is it has to be Purple, Yellow and Green.

And it has to be shiny!

Can you say glitter, sequines and boas?

Candleabra with Mardi Gras Decor

On either end of the mantle are candelabras that are dripping with beads.

Most of our beads came from both Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day parades over the years.

Of course you know that I will be slipping in a few gold crowns here and there.

Mardi gras candle with candlesticks

The hearth was feeling a little left out so we added a few things there also.

These candlesticks topped with a candle and then decorated with beads was  a good start on blinging out this area.

Lantern filled with beads and fleur de lis

On the other side of the hearth a lantern was given a ton of shiny beads as well as a glittery fleur di lis.

With the mantle complete it was time to spread a little more Mardi Gras love around the room.

Mardi Gras Sofa Table

The Sofa Table

Next up, the sofa table.

A fun runner was the base of this Mardi Gras vignette.

Bamboo lantern and smaller round candle holders were a perfect way to add in gold tones as well as some warmth and texture.

A fuzzy harlequin garland as well as a string of gold beads was woven between the lantern and candles down the center of the table.

Mardi Gras Mask

Rhinestone masks and glitter ornaments in various sizes were sprinkled amongst all the shiny decor.

What would Mardi Gras decor be without an alligator or two?

This alligator jester adds so much whimsy and fun to the table!

Celebrating Mardi Gras is so easy and fun when you have fun decor in your home!

Now, if you think that this is all of the Mardi Gras decor that we have here at the Castle, you would be wrong!

Be sure to come back on Friday when I’ll be sharing Mardi Gras in my dining room.

You know you don’t want to miss this one!

Until next time….
