Fall Front Porch
My fall front porch is slowly coming together. It’s still in the 90’s here, so it’s a little hard to shift from summer flowers to autumn leaves.
In fact, until this past weekend, you couldn’t find a mum or pumpkin for sale anywhere.
My sister and I hit Walmart over the holiday weekend, I believe I may have burst her eardrum with my great big girl squeal when I saw all of the mums. We came for folding chairs and left with mums!
I may or may have not bought a mum a little too large for my urn on the front porch. Is that even possible? After it was planted, I noticed that there was about a three inch gap between the flowers and the urn. Not pretty at all!
Over time the flowers would grow into this space, but I was not willing to wait that long. A burlap “skirt” was the perfect answer to my dilemma.
I wanted a pretty gathered, curvy look. To achieve this I cut about 4 to 5 feet of twine. Thread the twine through a large upholstery needle. Starting at one end of the burlap ribbon, make a couple of knots in the twine and start sewing a zig zag pattern in the ribbon.
Every two feet or so pull on the twine and gather the ribbon. It will give you a really pretty ribbon garland like you see in the picture above.
Repeat all of these steps until you have a length of gathered ribbon that you desire. Be sure to leave about six inches of extra twine on each end for ties.
Once I was finished making my garland, I wrapped it around my flower pot, filling in the blank space between the pot and the flowers. So much better!
If you know me, you know that I couldn’t leave the burlap ribbon unadorned. Adding a super cute black and white stripped ribbon kicks the cute factor up a notch!
I wanted to use this old ginger ale crate to hold a pot of mums. Putting a round container in a square crate leaves a lot of holes.
A little spanish moss makes the holes disappear!
I put my yellow mums on a brick to make my vignette more balanced. Who wants to see the brick? Not me. Adding some fall leaves takes care of the unsightly brick and the holes, tying the vignette together.
This faux pumpkin had one of the uglies stems I have seen! How did I not notice it when I bought it?
A little glue and glitter takes my pumpkin from drab to fab!
I love my fall wreath. Last year I used the same wreath with a different bow. This year I changed out the bow for one that matches the ones I added to the pots of flowers.
I think my tiny fall front porch is coming together.
My front porch is really small and very tall, which makes the entry wall look even taller. I have been searching for something other than a wreath to hang on the wall. I found the cutest sign at Grandin Road and decided to make a version of it for my fall front porch!
I love the sign paired up with these beautiful mums!
I still have a ton of decorating to get done, but I will say that the more I get done, the more I am ready to welcome in the fall season. It’s Fall Y’all!
