Master Bedroom Focal Wall

master bedroom refresh

Welcome to One Room At A Time Master Bedroom edition!  Today the girls and I are focusing on our Master bedroom focal wall.

My focal wall is the wall my bed rests on.

Since my headboard takes up so much of the wall, it’s a big part of what makes it the focal wall.

Because of this I was hesitant to put any major treatment like board and batten, wallpaper etc. on this wall.

fabric

I even thought about painting it one of the  pretty soft blues that was in the comforter.

But when it came right down to it, I realized the best thing to do was leave the wall alone and add in architectural items to go along with the bed and the design of the room.

So instead of going shopping, I decided to shop my house first!

I found this painting that my Mother did years ago and knew it worked well with my bedroom style.

Then I started looking for more items to create a gallery wall.

And guess what?

I had quite a few frames that would work well.

A little gold leaf and a few prints downloaded from The Met and I was in business.

Pictures above the bed

A Gallery wall was perfect for the small space above the bed!

Now all I needed was to address the space above my nightstands.

nightstand

This is what my nightstands look like when I started – notice the one of two things that I hung 3 years ago… lol!

Since my headboard is tall and by adding a gallery wall just made it even taller I needed something to hang above them that had some height.

Then I remembered that I had an antique dressing screen in storage.

I took it apart, recovered the fabric part and added a hanger on the back of each panel.

It was ready to hang!Nightstand decor

And this is the result.

It has the height, it ties in with the Cherry wood  in the rest of the room and the fabric ties in with the new pillows in the bedding.

I love it.

And this is what my master bedroom focal wall looks like today!

I still have to decorate this area, believe it or not.

You know, just put on a little jewelry to zhuzh it up a little.

That’s it for my focal wall, please don’t forget the see the video on Facebook and to check back in tomorrow when  we will be sharing our “haul” of all the things we will be using in our rooms.
