SiNaCa Glassblowing Class

I recently got to do something that I have wanted to do for a very long time, go to a SiNaCa glassblowing class!

SiNaCA is a studio in Ft. Worth, TX that was founded by several local artists to educate everyone about the creative medium of glass.  Just before Christmas they offered Groupons for a glassblowing class and I thought that it would be the perfect birthday gift for my BFF Roxanne!

We made reservations ahead of time and anxiously awaited the date!

Our class was the first of two for that evening, and contained six of us. We were told that we would be making a paperweight and an ornament for that month.

Roxanne was up first. February’s ornament was a heart, of course. They let us choose the colors that we wanted to use for the glass.  Roxanne is heating up the clear glass before add the color.

Next up was the paperweight, which was a lot more hands on.

At the same time, the instructors we really good about guiding you through everything so that you had really beautiful finished pieces. Here “T” is telling me to loosen up the pressure or my paperweight was going to fall on the floor! lol!

So how did our pieces turn out?

These are my pieces. I honestly couldn’t be happier! Of course, I love colored glass and have collected it since I was three, so I’m  easily pleased.

So, would I do it again? In a heartbeat and I think Roxanne would too.  I had so much fun!!! The staff  at the SiNaCa glassblowing class are super friendly and eager to help you make the best of your experience.

There are a few things I would share with you just in case you want to take a class.

Wear all cotton comfy clothing. No yoga pants or synthetics. It is hot and you are around fire! I chose jeans and a t-shirt, but others in class came from work so they were a little more dressed up.  If you go to an early summer class, I think they close in the hottest months of the year, be sure to wear light weight clothes. It is HOT!

Go a little early to look around their gallery. They not only sell works of art, but it’s a great place for you to get great ideas for colors and looks that you might want to do.

And the biggest piece of advice – have fun!
