Vintage School Desk before and after

Remember I told you that I scored big at garage sales lately? Well today I’m going to show you one of my finds. A vintage child’s school desk!

I already shared with you a cute wicker table that I found at a school garage sale, if you missed it you can read about it here. Well, I also bought these awesome tiny children’s school desks at the same sale.

They were so dang cute I had to take a few home! They had seen better years and had been in storage for who knows how long. Plus they were covered with dirt and grime and if I looked hard enough – which I did not! – I  probably would have found all sorts of disgusting stuff on them. I knew they could be made into all kinds of cuteness!

A thorough hosing off with lots of soap and a magic eraser with elbow grease got these sweet things clean enough to be painted!

Here is the first child’s desk before and after.

Disclaimer:  my floor was clean before Sadie, my lab, came in from outside to get in my pictures. Seems lately she has to be in every photo shoot! Can you say drama queen? Oh, well…

For this before and after I went with a black background and lots of fun and bright colors! I also left one of the slats on the back plain pink in case the new owner would like to paint their child’s name on it. It would be awesome painted or even vinyl lettering would be killer in case you wanted to remove the lettering to pass this desk down.

I’m not gonna lie, it took me a little while to paint this piece. The base coat of black was a breeze. Spray paint is my friend! However, the hand painted top and back took me  a few evenings of work while watching TV.  I think the end result was so worth the time put in!

I can’t wait to paint the rest of the children’s desks. There are so many options and themes running around in my head it may be awhile. I can’t choose which one to do! Baseball,  simple white with a number, school theme, girly pink with a crown, y’all KNOW I love crowns! See what I mean? My list is endless.

Until next time….

  2. DIG this desk!!! Real FAR OUT!!! I always wanted these desks in my homeschool but we do not have the room, wish we did! Many thanks for linking up at Vintage Charm!

    1. Thanks so much! The desks were so cute I couldn’t resist buying three or four! Wish I had littles of my own to gift them to!

    1. Thanks Victoria! I just happened to have a neighbor who worked at the school where they were on sale or I might never have found them! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. The desk came out so cute. I love the design and colors. I have one that I was planing on working on this week end but I haven’t come up with a great idea like yours. They are certainly a conversation piece.

    1. Thanks Debra! It took me awhile to think of a design. I have four desks, so I still need to come up with three more designs. I would love to see what you come up with for yours!
