Winter Flowers on the Front Porch

November 1, 2016 3 Comments

Winter flowers on the front porch are always a dilemma for me. I’m not kidding.

winter-flowers-on-the-front-porch-11

Especially since it is still a warm 84 degrees here in north Texas. I’m still wearing shorts most days. I am really ready for cooler temperatures. So are my flowers. What should you do when the summer and fall flowers look a little tired, but its still warm? Good question.

My Easter Table

Easter table 2.7

I finally did it! I figured out how to decorate my Easter table using blue tones. I’ve tried and tried to get it to work, but it just wouldn’t come together like I envisioned. Until this year.

easter table 2.2

What made this year so different? My killer awesome, blue and white bunny plates! Thank you Home Goods! At $2.99 each, these plates were a steal!

easter table 2.9

I also found these white placemats at Home Goods ( no, sadly they do not pay me to say how awesome they are, I just love them!)  Only problem? They just didn’t show up. No pop.

easter table 2.10

I had these green ones from last year and loved them. So it occurred to me that I could just spray paint the white ones blue.

easter table 2.6

This is how they turned out. I LOVE them! I used the square polk -a-dot placemats and napkins from last year. White dinner plates, blue glasses and silverware finish off this place setting. I could not be happier!!

easter table 2.4

I recently bought a large wooden dough bowl and I couldn’t resist using it as a centerpiece.

easter table 2.5

Complete with bunny, hydrangeas and ribbon. I did use a little color!

easter table 2.1

I did purchase two other super cute items – these tiny jar lanterns.  A little bit of rustic glamour! These were $2.99 – less 40% off at Michaels.

easter table 2.3

I use these sweet little salt and pepper shakers every year. They are so tiny – they are perfect for my easter table.

easter table 2.6

My easter table is a little more simple this year, I ‘m kinda of lovin’ that. I am really excited that for the most part my easter table is all of the blue and white tones that I use in my dining room. Finally!

Until next time….

Fall Table

FALL table 7

A few weeks ago I shared with you some of my fall decor, all except my dining room table. I gave you hints, but the dining room had so many pictures that I felt like it needed it’s own post to do it justice. Funny thing though, the longer I lived with it the more I took things off of the table. It just felt wrong. I couldn’t put my finger on it, so I decided to start over! I finally came up with a fall table that I could live with!

fall table 9This is the table before. Parts of it were to fussy. Parts were to plain. I just didn’t like it. At all.

The only thing I did like was the pumpkins. Especially the large wooden white one. I recently bought it at HomeGoods and I totally love it. I decided to clear the table and start over.

fall table 1This is what I came up with. A lot of natural elements, along with some bling.

I decided to scrap all of the colorful fall leaves for a more natural table. I mean, we really don’t have the bright orange and yellow leaves here at this time of the year, darn it!  We DO have flowers in their last stages, acorns, pinecones and pumpkins. So why not go with a more subtle decor?

fall table 4

If I went out into my yard to gather things to decorate with, rather than buy it, these are the things I would find right now. Well, other than the bling. Y’all knew I couldn’t go totally natural. The Queen needs some BLING!

fall table 5Even the table deserves a little “joory”! I did leave in the really subtle oranges, blues, greens, browns and yellows. But they are just hints of color.

fall table 2You may have noticed that the table isn’t set. I usually have the chargers, plates, glasses, napkins…the whole nine yards on the table. Not this time. Believe it or not, once I got to this point in my fall table, I was really OK with just the centerpiece. The rest just felt like clutter.

Will it stay this way? Probably not. I know me well enough to know that, just like everything else in my house, this fall table is a work in progress. I promise to share the new changes with you as they occur!

Until next time….

Summer Flower Arrangement

hyd cp 5As sad as it is, summer is coming to a close. School is back in session and all too soon we will be decorating for fall, Halloween and (gulp!) Christmas. It just goes by so darn fast! So I thought that one more summer flower arrangement would help me keep summer here a little bit longer.

hyd cp 2

I’ve had this container for a lot of years. I’ve had it in my bathroom lined with towels to hold all of the girly bath bubbles, salts and creams. I’ve actually planted real flowers in it, so why not a faux summer flower arrangement?

As you can see it is not exactly solid, so lining it with sheet moss helps keep all of the arrangement from falling through. Once that was done I put styrofoam in the bottom.

hyd cp 9

Next came my hydrangeas…behind peonies these are my favorites. I am currently trying to actually grow real ones. The growing season here has been challenging at best. Torrential rains followed by record heat. Not so great for plants. So… faux plants it is!

After adding the flowers, I added in some leaves and leafy sticks to fill in any holes. Yeah.. I am a real technical flower arranger… Plus, the extra flora and fauna look good! It’s a win, win!

hyd cp

My summer flower arrangement looks great on my kitchen table. More than anything it makes me feel like summer is here to stay just a little bit longer.

Are you ready for fall? Or maybe your like me…holding on to summer for just a little bit longer?

Until next time….
