Pinterest Craft – Fabulous or Fail

Pinterest craft – fabulous or fail? That is the question sometimes, isn’t it? Okay, I am fully prepared to admit that I spend way too much time on Pinterest. Doesn’t everyone? No?

I recently saw these cute Mason jars and fell in love with them. They are all over the place on Pinterest and are suppose to be super easy to make. But are they really?

In case you want to try making some, here is what you will need:

Mason jars

Mod Podge

Epsom Salts

A brush

A large Bowl

Wax paper

Twine

Greenery

Hot glue gun and glue

Step 1:  Place wax paper under your for area.

Take a clean mason jar and quickly paint a coat of Mod Podge onto the mason jar. Paint on as even a coat as possible. Do not paint the bottom of the jar.

Step 2:   Pour epsom salts into a large bowl. Holding the painted jar over your bowl, sprinkle epsom salts over the painted area. Make sure that all of the glued areas are covered evenly.

Step 3: Set your salt covered jars to the side to dry.

Step 4:  Once your jars are completely dry, Pinterest instructions say to seal the salt on the jars by spraying a clear acrylic onto them.

I wanted mine to be a little bit shiny, like ice or snow, so I used Triple-Thick Crystal Clear Glaze on mine.

Give each jar an even coat of clear glaze. Let dry.

Step 5 : It’s time to embellish your jars.

I wanted to use the materials I had on hand, but only had plain greenery.

You know this girl loves a little bling!

A quick spray of adhesive, followed by a little glitter and epsom salts gives my greenery that wintery feel I was looking for.

I twisted twine a couple of times around the neck of the jar, then hot glued my greenery and a sprig of berries to the twine, before tying a bow.

Step 6: To give my jars a warm glow, I dropped in a pretty metallic red tea light.

My jars were done!

Ta Da!

So, is this  Pinterest craft fabulous or fail? I think this one falls into the fabulous category. It was super easy to make. I had everything to make here at the castle. That’s a big win for me. I love the idea of cleaning out my crafting supplies.

The jars took an afternoon to complete, mainly due to drying times.

I love them! They would look good just about anywhere in your home and would also make great gifts!

Until next time….
