The Office is Done!

It only took 2 years, but the office is done.  I never thought I’d be that girl who was frantically working on a room right before the holidays, but I was.

We were frantically finishing up Wednesday evening mere hours before my family arrived! There are still a few things I want to do in there, but I was so excited that I couldn’t wait to share it with you.

Let me back up a little. Two years ago this office had a desk piled with papers, a 75 gallon fish tank that held one lone tiny fish, a piano that no one played and one tiny 6 foot shelving unit that we have had for more years than I can count.

We also had books all over the house, shoved in nooks and crannies. Musical instruments were in bedrooms and closets. In short, it was not functioning at all. I had before photos, but it has been so long ago that I cannot find them!

Believe it or not this material was my inspiration for the room. It has dragons all over it. Not my usual style at all! But I love that blue, green color.

We cleaned out the room, bought 4 Ikea Billy shelving units, 4 farm house outdoor lights, a ton of wood and paint. The shelves went up, waiting to be built in and life got super busy. That’s where it sat.

Until one week ago. The Hubs decided that it was time to get it together.

He built in the shelving and wired and installed the lighting in two days! Tuesday found me up past midnight giving the shelving a first coat of paint, followed by another coat early Wednesday morning.

At this point I was drooling every time I walked into the room! The Hubs installed the lighting after work Wednesday evening, just a short hour before my family arrived.

I couldn’t be happier with the final results.

The lighting just may be my favorite part of the whole room. The farm style lamps were installed with a dimmer switch.

Now, besides office work, it is the perfect place to curl up and read a book or listen to some music.

After Thanksgiving, The hubs installed hooks to hold all of the musical instruments that were all over the house.

The wall is curved so it has always been very hard to hang art in here.  Why not use the instruments as art? I love it!

I still want to paint the ceiling, install a shelf above the desk and tweak the shelving decor a little, but that’s all for another day. Today, the office is done! Hopefully, it won’t take another 2 years!

Until next time….

  1. WOw, wow, WOW, Tammy! This is drop-dead gorgeous! I can see why that drapery fabric would inspire you, and I am crazy over the printed chairs, pillow and rug. Of course, the white shelves and barn lights really make a super foundation, and you’re right – the instruments are perfect art for that space. WOW. Super job! Be excited! I would be too!

    1. Rita you are too sweet! Thanks for the encouragement. I still have a few things to do ( paint the dreaded ceiling! LOL!) I must admit to spending a lot more time in there reading, at least when The Hubs lets me. lol
