Kitchen Pendants

I finally found kitchen pendants lights to go over my island!

drum chandy

My kitchen has a lot of windows. You would think that it would be light and airy. You would be wrong! For years we had a pot rack that hung over our kitchen island. It didn’t hold anything but dust, so I had the brilliant idea for the Hubs to put in pendant lighting.

Turquoise Chandelier

Turquoise Chandelier 10

I recently shared with you my sisters awesome new house and her big, massive black bed. We painted so many things in this room it was crazy! One of the pieces that everyone seemed to love was the Turquoise Chandelier.  It didn’t start out this cute – at all!

turquoise chandelier 1

My sisters and I were at Restore – these stores are like the motherload of all garage sales/home good stores – and found this chandelier for $10.00! It had great bones and it worked. WHAT???? We also found black shades with gold lining for $1.50 each. Score!

turquoise chandelier 2

Now it was time for fun. I cleaned the chandy really well and removed the white socket covers.turquoise chandelier 4 Be sure to tape of the light bulb sockets.  Then you are ready to paint.

turquoise chandelier 5

The color scheme for my sister’s master bedroom was black, coral and turquoise. Big black bed with coral on the bedspread. We had already painted some tables turquoise for her nightstands and thought that a turquoise chandelier would be a perfect way to carry that color throughout the room.

Two to three light coats of spray paint and we had a really cute chandy!

turquoise chandelier 6

We weren’t done yet. It was time to add the bling! I love Amazon. They have a large selection of crystals.  You can purchase them individually or on strings by the foot.

turquoise chandelier 7

Using my drill, I drilled a hole on the outside edge of the “cup”. This allows you to attach the crystals to each arm on the chandelier.  If you look really close to the middle of the chandelier, there are some tear drop crystals hanging from some curly Q’s on the arm. Sorry for the really bad “technical terms”.  I simply tied the crystals on using fishing line. Fishing line is perfect for this. It is clear and can’t be seen and it is super strong!

turquoise chandelier 8

After adding the black shades, we were done!

turquoise chandelier 9

Here’s a close up. The black shades have a gold interior. When you turn the chandy on at night you get a really soft warm glow. Perfect mood lighting. Not too dark, not too bright.  And the bling? It shines, sparkles and twinkles!

Black bed 8

I think that this chandelier is my second favorite piece in the room – of course the bed is my very favorite …

The chandelier turned out exactly like we envisioned. The best part? We made this chandelier for under $50.00 and my sister loves it. That’s a win/win!

Until next time….

Christmas In The Dining Room

December 1, 2015 15 Comments

Christmas in the dining room 10 I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! As soon as the turkey was polished off, the elves here at the castle got their Christmas decorating on. (There may have been a little shopping going on too…) I have so much to show you that I am going to break it down into several posts for fear of putting you in Christmas decorating overload. What can I say? I love Christmas! I’m starting with Christmas in the dining room.

Christmas in the dining room 1I normally do lots of glam red, white and silver in the dining room, but not this year. I didn’t intend to change it up. It just happened. It all started with two new things. The first was this Santa art. You can’t tell but it lights up.  I bought it last year and never found a good home for it until now.

Christmas in the dining room 5The second was this old truck that I bought from a local antique store. It isn’t an antique, it just looks old. Old and awesome.  I was planning on using it in a different area. Oh, well …

The Santa art and the old truck led me down a more natural path. Less bling. I KNOW! I can’t believe I even said that, but it’s true. More nature with a little bit of bling. We all know that there is still some bling…

Christmas in the dining room 12Y’all know I love chalkboard stuff. I won this runner at my PoKeeno group and it was perfect for my theme.

However, I did add some trim – the raw edges were a little too rustic for me.

Christmas in the dining room 9I loved the black so much that I made Blackboard Merry Christmas chargers to go with it. I’ll be sharing how I made those with you on DIY Christmas Friday, so stay tuned for the 411 on that!

christmas in the dining room 11I loved where this theme was going to much that I ordered new napkins and a plaid scarf to go with all the things I already had. As you can see the napkins came in, the scarf did not. Womp waa…. dang!  As soon as it does, if it does, I’ll add and share.

Christmas in the dining room 13

The only things I used from last year are my Christmas plates, silverware and stemware.

Christmas in the dining room 14

My chandy got a little bling and nature too… I love these little red birds nestled into the greenery… so sweet! I got them at the Dollar Tree and they even came with clips on them.christmas in the dining room 7

So there you have it. Christmas in the dining room. I’m loving the simplicity of it. And I didn’t spend a whole lot of money changing things up. At this time of year ain’t nobody got a ton of extra change!

Until next time…..

Tiny Details In My Office

July 14, 2015 No Comments

office arm 17I shared my office with you last week in a really HUGE post. So huge that I couldn’t show you all of the tiny details in my office in one post. So today I get to share those with you! Tiny details always make the piece come together. It’s just like adding jewelry to your favorite outfit.

office arm 10

Here is a reminder of how my new/old tv armoire/office looks like. It was done in chalk paint, so it has a beautifully soft patina. The back plates on the doors would NOT come off without some serious damage to the doors, so I left them.

office arm 8

I added these modern lucite and brass pulls. If they look familiar, it’s because I used them on the chest of drawers in my wrapping closet. I really, really lurve them! I like the modern pulls against the traditional back plate – I’ve always leaned toward the eclectic.

office arm 4

Most of the tiny details in my office are on the inside. The most obvious being the cheetah print stenciling.

If you follow along with me, you know that I love doing something to the drawers to make a statement. On the outside face of the drawers I have hand painted crowns ( you know I love them) and numbers . The Hubs asked me if I needed the numbers so that I would know how many drawers I had. That earned him a serious eye roll!

office arm 11

On the inside of the drawers I lined them with this fun paper!

office arm 5

The doors themselves were a great opportunity for some organizational tools.

On the left side, I painted it with chalkboard paint. Love me some inspirational words of wisdom.

office arm 19

Since my post on Friday I went back and added a calendar below the chalkboard.

office arm 6

On the right side is the bulletin board, which is really clean right now. Before long I will have it filled with everything from swatches to photos of ideas or upcoming blogs.

office arm 7

On the upper shelf, I added baskets and attached cute chalkboard signs  so that I would know where I put what. Hey, Go ahead and judge, but I never seem to remember where I put what at first. Besides they are CUTE! I also put some of my favorite art and design reference books up there.

office arm 1

And one of my favorite tiny details in my office is the chandelier which was formerly a candlelier. I love it – I do. Although I am still not digging the gold and silver together on this one.  There may be some changes coming to it in the future! But for now… it’s all good.

I also had this Do What You Love print that I could never find a space for.. it’s like it was made for this spot.

office arm 15

Some of the tiny details that you don’t immediately see are my newly painted office supplies. I taped them all up…

office arm 18

and spray painted them gold! LURVE!!!!

office arm 4

And the finished piece….drum roll please! There are a ton of tiny details in my office. Individually they really don’t make that big of an impact, but put all together they give it that WOW factor. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

Do you have a dedicated office space in your house that is a little unconventional? I would love to hear about it!

Until next time…

DIY Chandelier Before and After

Chandy B & A

Apparently, shopping runs in my family!  Who knew? My sweet seester T shops for shoes – a lot! If you were looking at all of the shoes in her closet you would know that she’s really good at it. My sweet seester D always finds exactly the right present for everyone.  Me? Y’all know I shop for all things home decor. Lately, my seester D has found some amazing home items at really awesome prices. One of  her most recent finds was a chandelier -which she gave to me to give it a little makeover. I can’t wait to share my DIY chandelier before and after  with you.

Chandy 3

This is it.. not bad as it was, but lately I have been seeing chandies that  have been painted with bling added to them. I just had to try it.

This baby was going shabby chic, so y’all know I was going to paint it!

I always get so excited at the beginning of a project that I almost always forget to take the “before” photo! I had the chandy taped and ready to paint before I caught myself!

TIP: To spray paint this, it was easier to hang in the tree for the spray painting part – yeah… just my kind of crazy! I know the neighbors thought so. The only tree that had branches low enough for me to hang it from was in the front yard! ( Don’t tell the HOA!)

Chandy 4

Here it is after spray painting it white and a light sanding to distress it for that shabby chic look. Now to add the bling!

Chandy

Woo hoo! Here it is with all the bling added.  Not too shabby! ( as I write that I hear Adam Sandler’s voice singing the Hanukkah song! I can’t help it!)  The hardest part about adding the bling was deciding where I wanted to put it. I was scared to drill the holes to hang the bling from in case I changed my mind where I wanted to hang the bling. I quickly got over that and decided to just go with it.  You know what? I like it!

Chandy 1

Here is a closer look… the only thing that I am thinking of changing is the white sleeves below the bulbs. The faux “burnt” look kinda bugs me…  They came this way new. I know that they are suppose to be shabby chic, but this feels a little too shabby to me. I’m gonna live with it awhile and see if it grows on me.

I can’t wait to try another one, only this time I want to do it in a really bright color. Turquoise? Red? Kelly Green? I also think this chandy would look great with the round bulbs that are trending right now.  Change the bulbs, change the look. Really the options are endless. Which I totally love!

This was a really fun project for me. It wasn’t too difficult and didn’t take me but parts of two days. If you are thinking of making one yourself, don’t be scared like me – just drill away!

Until next time…
