Trash to Treasure Vanity

I’m not sure if you know it or not, but I started this blog to promote my furniture restore business four years ago. Over time the blog has morphed into more of a life style blog. However, there are still days /weeks where I’m swamped with furniture makeovers. That’s this week. Today I’m sharing a trash to treasure vanity makeover.

trash to treasure vanity

A friend texted me asking if I  had seen this vanity in the trash down the street. Nope, I had not. So I hopped into the car and went to do a little dumpster diving. This is what I found!

Before and After Changing Table

February 19, 2016 2 Comments

changing table 10I’ve got the cutest before and after changing table to share with you! Two days after Christmas a friend in my neighborhood called me to tell me there was a huge mirror in her neighbors trash, did I want to come and get it?

changing table 8So I hopped in my car and raced to the back of the neighborhood. I picked the mirror and was headed home when I saw this changing table on the side of the road. At first glance the drawer was in pieces. The plan was  to just  remove the drawer and paint the changing table.

changing table 9

However, once I looked at it, I realized that all it needed was a few screws tightened and a little glue and this changing table was super sturdy.

changing table 6

My first thought was to make it into a bar cart. As I was loading it with all of the bar nick nack paddy crap I  knew it was way to big for a bar cart. Dang! What to do with it now?

changing table 12

Then I was talking to my sweet niece who is expecting in April. They were moving into a new house, moving their three year old into a big boy room and using the existing nursery bedding and furniture for the new baby. This neat dresser was what they had been using as a changing table, only problem was that it was a little too low. ( Sorry about the picture quality. She sent these from her phone to mine. Not exactly Kodak moment photography! lol!) I knew that she really needed my trash to treasure changing table.

changing table 11My nieces style is traditional with a warm forty’s color scheme and some antiques thrown into the mix. Above, you can see some of the bedding and the rug. We decided that the orange in the rug would be the perfect color for the changing table. I KNOW! I am not an orange kind of gal, but this room just screams for it.

changing table 5

A few coats of paint…

changing table 3

A little sanding to make it look a little worn and old, followed by a satin top coat…

changing table 2

And this is the finished piece!

changing table 4

I had a few extra knobs from Anthropologie, so I added one to the drawer.

changing table 1

I love colored glass! I love fun drawer knobs! Plus, this green knob will perfectly match the green changing pad that is already in the nursery. I’m still on the fence about it though. My first thought was to add a white milk glass knob. What’s a girl to do? I’m going to let the mom- to- be decide.

changing table

Not bad for a few days work. I can’t wait to get it into the nursery and see how it looks. This before and after changing table will hopefully be a sweet addition to the nursery!

Until next time…

A Painted Caddy

January 26, 2016 5 Comments

painted caddy 15

I recently bought the cutest caddy at HobLob! I loved everything about it but the color. Which y’all KNOW I painted. I love a painted caddy!

painted caddy

When I found the caddy on sale for 66% off, it leaned a little and the color was kind of blah for me. I wanted a pop of color. So I tightened up the screw on the bottom to fix the leaning issue, then got busy with the paint.

painted caddy 1

I wanted this caddy to look like it was very old, very chippy, and had had multiple coats of paints over the years. I painted  random spots of apple green, followed by duck egg blue and followed up with an over all coat of turquoise.

painted caddy 3

I gave it a finish coat of clear and dark wax. The final result was really cool  except for one thing… It was WAY to green for me.  We all know that it ain’t easy being green! I wanted a pop of color, but not that much color.

painted caddy 5

My solution? I added a coat of light blue to tone it down and gave it a light sanding. I forwent the dark wax this time, just in case it brought out more of the yellow green colors than I wanted.painted caddy 7

Here’s my final result. I was in love with it. I quickly put it on my kitchen island and loaded this sweet little caddy up. One project down, a billion more to go. So it was off to my office/work space.

painted caddy 8

This is the mess that greeted me.

painted caddy 9

Yikes!

painted caddy 10

My solution for anything that I don’t have a clue what to do with…

Needless to say I immediately thought that I needed to buy something for a better storage solution. Something that  was vertical rather than horizontal… something pretty with multiple dividers, something that had easy access to all of my stuff that I use daily. Oh, wait… I have a painted caddy in the kitchen that would be perfect.

painted caddy 12

And it is perfect! I holds all the nick- nack- paddy -crap that was all over my desk. I sorted through all of the junk, tossed what I didn’t need or had no clue what it was or where it came from, then loaded that painted caddy up!

painted caddy 14

Not only did it hold all of my stuff that was spread out all over my work area, it is really pretty too. And I feel like I have lost ten pounds- ha! I wish!

A painted caddy was the perfect solution. Another happy accident!

Until next time…..

Terri’s Black Bed

January 12, 2016 12 Comments

Black bed 13

A few months ago my sweet seester Terri sent me photos of a house that she wanted to buy. It was a craftsman bungalow that was so cute! I immediately fell in love with it! We got busy buying, painting and repurposing furniture for her new home. Over the next few months I will be sharing her new home with you. Today we are starting in the Master bedroom. I am so excited to share Terri’s black bed with you.

Terri's Bungalow

Here’s the first photo she sent to me. I could just see sitting on a porch swing in the summer time on that front porch!

Terrri's Bungalow

Here’s what it looks like today. Not really any changes just a bigger picture. It has so much potential!

Black bed 4

I bought this BIG black bed a few years ago thinking I would put it in my bedroom, but the Hubs wasn’t sold on it. So it sat in storage until now. When I say it is big, I mean it is a Queen size ( what else would it be?) bed that measures 6 foot tall! As you can see here, I am standing on a tall barstool to paint it!

Black Bed 11

I used Junk Gypsy’s black paint, did a little distressing and a wax topcoat to finish it off. It. Is. AWESOME.

T's bungalow 4Terri’s bedroom is average in size. It is painted a pale yellow and has white trim. The entire house has the most beautiful hardwood floors you have ever seen.

Black bed 8

It had an angled bump out with two windows and the bed fits in it perfectly! We are still looking for the perfect rug, but haven’t found it yet.

black bed 9

As you can see the turquoise side tables that we refinished were the exact size we needed.

Black bed 8In this room we painted the bed, painted and redesigned the chandelier, painted the lamps , night stands, dresser, and painted the cross. I think the only thing we didn’t paint was the mattress! I’ll share how and what we did in later posts.

Have you ever seen a bed this big? It may be big, but it is the show stopper in this room.  I am so glad we didn’t put it in my bedroom because it feels like it was always meant to go in Terri’s master bedroom!

Until next time….

Painted End Table

January 8, 2016 No Comments
Share:

Painted End Table 8I tend to lean toward furniture that has a lot of detail and curves. However, in the past few years I have found a few pieces that I love that are more stream lined. This painted end table is one of them.

Painted black endurable

I found this very dusty, poorly painted mid-century modern end table at a garage sale. Even though it was dusty and painted hot mess, it was very sturdy and I could visually exactly how to give it a little life. I wanted to paint it black – again – and I wanted to give it a high gloss shine.

Painted end table 1

And then I went to Hobby Lobby. Have y’all been to their knob and drawer pull section lately? Oh, my goodness! It’s the bomb. I only wanted about ten different new styles. But this Agate  drawer pull caught my eye. I loved it so much that I immediately changed my mind about how I wanted to finish the end table.

painted end table 2

Here’s the “end” result. ( sorry I couldn’t resist!)   Navy and gold! The front feet had a brass cap on them – which you couldn’t see because of the awful paint. I polished those up and ….

painted end table 4Added some gold leaf to the edge of the agate drawer pull.

painted end table 7

The drawer sides had the worst over spray ever, so I painted them gold to tie into the gold on the legs and on the agate pull to finish the end table.

painted end table 2

I have to say that even though this table is totally different than what I had envisioned to start with, I think that the final result feels like it was always suppose to be this way. In fact I like it so much it is going to be a really tough decision to keep it or sell it.

Until next time…

Painted Lane Cedar Chest

January 5, 2016 11 Comments
Share:

Lane Cedar Chest 11Ta da! My first painted piece of the new year! My painted Lane cedar chest.

Lane cedar chest 9Believe it or not, I bought this cedar chest almost 15 years ago. Most of you know, in  a former life, I was a decorative- or as we used to say – Faux finish painter. My BFF and then business partner Rox and I stopped at an estate sale on a whim and found this Lane cedar chest.

It brought back wonderful memories of my Granny’s cedar chest. It was always locked and if you were lucky and got a peek inside you would see wondrous treasures. A coin collection, letters, photos and a dress with a white hooped skirt! I loved that chest.  So you know that I had to take this chest home.

Funny thing was, it didn’t make it to my home until a couple of months ago. It went into storage, then we loaned it out to a couple of friends before I got it back and began it’s restoration.

Lane Cedar CHest 6

I had just gotten it home when I saw an article about the Lane cedar chest’s locking system. Basically – if you had a small child crawl inside, they couldn’t open it from the inside with the original locks. They would be totally trapped inside of an air tight chest. Which totally freaked me out! However, if you wrote Lane and gave them the serial number on the chest they would send you a replacement for free.

Lane cedar chest 7

As you can see whoever the original owner was, they never removed the original ads or keys! It was in really awesome condition.  Finding the serial number is super easy, it’s always on the back or on the bottom of your chest. I wrote to Lane and a few weeks later received a brand new lock and key. Woo Hoo!

Lane cedar Chest 4

I have never liked a blonde wood finish. Since this was going in my bedroom I decided to paint it gray with a few white accents. A tiny bit of antiquing followed by a wax finish and my cedar chest was done! Woo Hoo!

Lane cedar chest 1Here is my finished piece. It is so pretty , I love it! Not too bad for an afternoon’s work.

Lane Cedar cHest 2It is the perfect color for my room. Now I just need to find the perfect rug for the room!

Lane Cedar Chest 10I am toying with the idea of painting more of the furniture in the bedroom – so far I have chickened out. It just feels so dark compared to the rest of the room. I go back and forth on whether to paint or not to paint.

Until I can make a definite decision without freaking out, I’m going to let it stay as it is!

Until next time…

Painted Rocking Chair

Painted Rocking Chair 5

A super sweet client of mine gave me the honor of painting her husbands childhood rocking chair. No pressure right? AND  Her daughter wanted to use it in her daughters first year pictures.  YIKES!  This painted rocking chair had to be special….

Did I mention that I live in manland?  OK.. only a billion times. Seriously, my work was cut out for me! OH… and please forgive the photography! Rainy days make for dark pictures…sigh!

Painted rocking chair 2

Although I was raised  with all sisters, it has been a very long time since I have thought about little girl decor. Luckily my client knew exactly how she wanted this chair painted. YES!

painted rocking chair 1

She had recently had me paint some wooden valances to match the bedding in a room she decorated for her granddaughters.  Thank you Pottery Barn! So the chair needed to match the valances. Feeling much better about it.

Painted rocking chair

I think it turned out pretty cute! I can just see tea parties, dress up days, and wild adventures with this chair!

One other thing that made this chair so special for me? It was my first piece that I have ever used a paint sprayer on! Crazy right? I was always such a chicken to use one, but I am a convert for sure!! As you are reading this I am frantically searching my pile of projects for my next spray painting adventure!

Until next time….

Turquoise Night Stands

August 4, 2015 No Comments
Share:

turn side 8My BFF Roxanne’s sweet momma Sarah just moved here to be closer to her girls. In the move she downsized and had to get rid of some furniture….you know where this is going, right? Miss Sarah was kind enough to give me some of her extra furniture! Yay… picture me doing some serious backflips! She gifted me two tables that would make awesome night stands, in fact they would make awesome turquoise night stands!    My sister T needed some night stands  to go with her new bed. After consulting with her, she was in love with the turquoise idea and said to just go for it.

turn side 7This is what the tables looked like when I got them. A little worn and missing some handles, but overall great bones.

turn side 6First thing? Remove the broken drawer handles. Only, there was a big problem. The handles were attached to the drawer face and THEN the drawer face was attached to the drawer. There was absolutely NO way to remove the handles. Can you say cray cray?

turn side 3

My solution was to gently pry off the drawer face and remove the handles. Then re-attach them before painting.

turn side 4If you think that I was excited about getting the end tables, you should have seen me when I discovered Junk Gypsy paint was sold locally! I couldn’t wait to try it out. I absolutely LOVE their colors. I chose a color called Free Spirit. A really beautiful blue turquoise color.

Junk Gypsy paint is a clay paint, so I wasn’t sure how the application would be. Honestly, the first few strokes I wasn’t really thrilled. I had already stirred it up before beginning, but went back and stirred some more. MUCH BETTER! Moral of the story? Stir, then stir some more.

turn side 2When painting JG goes on like regular latex paint. JG also dries like regular paint, but the end finish is a little “chalky”. I used a gloss poly to seal it. The end result? A smooth satin finish. Which I really, really liked!

turn side 1My sister chose her drawer handles and after drilling new holes ( that went all the way through the drawer face AND the drawer!) this is the end result.

turq sideMy sister and I are crushing on it big time! So much so that we are going to paint her new/old bed and dresser in a complimentary color! I love it when redecorating a room all comes together!!! Girl squeal!

I loved the Junk Gypsy paint so much that I am already planning to use a few other colors on  some of  furniture in my pile waiting to be done.  I’m thinking of new colors like: Flower Child ( bright pink) or Landlocked Mermaid…( lovely light green)  or Singing the Texas Blues ( navy – my favorite color!).  I think I would use them just because they have such great names! If you need me I will be in the workshop painting away!

Until next time…..

TV Armoire Becomes an Office

July 10, 2015 No Comments

office arm 16

I hate to admit it, but most of my blogging is done from my sofa in front of the TV.( My ADD prevents me from just sitting and watching a TV show – at least that’s my excuse!) If you thought that I have a stylish office that is perfectly decorated where I sit with a big cup of coffee and write, you would be so wrong. I have the office, but it is also my craft room. Nine days out of ten, I have a billion projects going on at one time. It can be one hot mess!  As I get more involved in blogging I realize that I need a dedicated space to do nothing but blog. I think I have the solution. Here’s how my tv armoire becomes an office!

I have a ton of photos, so get yourself a drink, settle in and get comfy!

office arm 12This tv armoire came with my bedroom suit. I had it for quite awhile –

office arm 14and it was fine… although it looks much better in the photo than in real life! It was really beat up.

French Armoire 3

Until I found this piece. It was love a first site! Old armoire out, new armoire in!

So I had my old armoire sitting around wondering what to do with it. And then it hit me…why not make myself an office?

office arm 10My office/craft room is “tiffany” blue, black and white. Over time I have been adding in gold accents, so my new “office” had to match. The first thing I did was paint all of the inside white. The outside I painted black, slightly distressed it and added a little gold accent. I will say though, that when the doors are shut, you can see the white. No bueno! So I am going to go back and paint the one inch lip on the inside of the armoire. Problem solved.

office arm 4

TA DA!!! Here’s the finished office!  I was a little worried about the cheetah print, but figured I could always repaint if I hated it. Thing is… I really do like it!

Hand painted crowns – ya know I gotta have those! – and numerals on the drawers. (The hubs snickered at the numerals asking me if I need the numbers to know how many drawers I had? Serious eye roll!)

The shelving above is perfect for books and baskets to hold all my knick knack paddy crap. Drawers and adjustable shelving below make for a ton of storage for me. A girl needs her storage, am I right?

office arm 5

After opening, I can push the doors into the cabinet or leave them out.  I figured these were the perfect spots for a few organizational tools. On the right side I painted the inset on the door with chalkboard paint. Gotta have a place to put some inspirational quotes.

office arm 6On the left side, I mounted a bulletin board to hold all of my swatches, notes etc. Below the bulletin board I mounted some Command strip hooks and hung clips from them to hold my photos. I may change out the command hooks with something more decorative over time, but for now they work well.

office arm 1

I needed a small light in my new office, but couldn’t find what I wanted. I had this “candlelier” hanging in the guest room and inspiration hit. I made it into a hanging light! I will share that with you in a later post – just because I love you. I am gonna change a few things with it though. Usually the two tone metals wouldn’t bother me, but since there is absolutely no silver anywhere else, I will be taking it apart and painting it gold. I may paint the black cord too…. OCD much? Oh, yeah!

office arm 4

Now heres the part that lets this tv armoire become an office. The TV sliding stand/tray- thingy. Yup, real technical term there for ya!

office arm 2Because the tray slides out, it creates a desk that is the perfect height for this stool that I repainted and recovered earlier this year. Woo Hoo!  Major room for my legs and feet.

I love how my tv armoire becomes an office for so many reason – too many to show all in one post ( so check back next Tuesday for all of the details!).  I love that I can push the desk in and close the door when I am not using it, giving me plenty of room for whatever I am working on in the rest of the room. I love that it is pretty,  I mean, who doesn’t want to work where you feel happy and at home?

This project was a ton of work. A little painting and a ton of details. But so worth it!

Until next time….

Small Black Table

June 23, 2015 2 Comments
Share:

black table 10

If you haven’t noticed before, I love navy. Years ago I had a ton of navy in my house. Then the red, gold, and green trend came along and I reluctantly waved good-bye to all of my navy. Well, things have come full circle and navy is back, jack! In the next few months I will be redecorating one of my guest rooms and guess what color I am doing? Yup, Navy! Navy, white and gold. I have this small black table that I have had for years that needed a little TLC. This post is about how a cute small black table became a navy rock star!

black table

I bought this small – it is really small- black table at Bombay years ago. It had a cherry wood finish back then. A little wear and tear and I painted it black – which I loved, until it landed in my sons room.

black table 1

You can’t see it very well in the pic, but it had gotten wet or something- no one seems to know exactly what (eye roll!) -and it “bubbled”up. Plus, some of the paint had been pulled off of the top. Time for a serious makeover.

black table3

Usually when I use chalk paint I don’t need to sand, but since I had the “bubble” syndrome going I gave it a good sanding with my hand sander. All of the white spots? That is where the paint had bubbled. After sanding I gave it two coats of Annie Sloan Napoleonic Blue.

black table 4

Another thing that I LOVE  to do is give the inside and sides of a drawer a different color of paint from the main body. Makes me happy every time I open one. Don’t judge – it’s the little things! I painted the drawer face two coats of Annie Sloan Pure White.

black table 5

Then gave the interior and the sides of the drawer a couple of coats of hot pink paint.

black table 7

At this point it was cute, but I wanted to add a little pop. I painted the edges of the table top and the drawer a coat of true gold to match the pull. Perfect!

black table 8

The drawer is so darn cute…. I love everything about it. Except… the pull. It was too tiny.

black table 9

I had this pull left over from another project and decided to give it a try. I wasn’t sure that I was gonna like the style of it, but I really do love it. It gives it more weight and makes the painted gold accents feel like they had always been there. I really, really love it now.

In the next few months I will be giving a lot of the furniture in the guest room a total makeover. Some will be painted like my small black table – or should I say my beautiful navy, white and gold rockstar of a table!

Until next time….

Dresser and Desk Makeover

May 22, 2015 2 Comments

Cam dresser 11

We share in our family. Pass things down. Recently, my seester-in-law Judy gave my seester-in-law Stephanie her daughter’s old dresser and desk for her girls bedroom. Have I lost you yet? Of course, I couldn’t be left out and volunteered to paint them to match my niece’s room. I have to say that this was one of my very favorite desk and dresser makeovers.

Cam Drawers 5

This is what we started with – the dresser…

Cam Drawers 6

and the desk. Both had great bones and were in good shape, but my nieces, the cute Miss C and the marvelous Miss M had visions of something different.

Cam drawers 7

First thing first… a good cleaning to prep for the paint and the removal of  billion drawer pulls! Seriously, not a billion, but DANG, there were a lot! The top of the pieces were very “slick” so I gave them a coat of Kilz to help the paint adhere.

Cam drawers 4

And remember all of those drawer pulls? Well, I am not totally positive, but I think Miss C  gave a great big wrinkled nose, eye roll  to them ( I know I would have!) and decided they wanted something a little more “her”.   So we patched all of the holes with wood putty and once they dried gave them all a good sanding.

Cam Drawers 8

Then I gave them three coats of white paint.  As you can see , you can’t even tell where the original holes for the drawer pulls were. Yep, working in my dining room as we are still having torrential rain here!
Now we could have added some drawer pulls and it would all have been good, but we wanted to add a bit of fun!cam pillow

This is the girl’s bedding… muy bueno! Love those colors.

Cam drawers 3So after texting a lot talking to the girls and their mother we came up with a plan. I painted the sides of the drawers. ( remember I told you I am so lovin’ painting the sides of drawers lately) Each a different from it’s neighbor, orange – Go OSU!, deep turquoise, hot pink, and sagey, olive green.

Cam drawers 1

Then I painted, stenciled and stamped the drawer sides with different patterns to mimic the elements in the girl’s room. These are the dresser drawers…

Cam drawers

And these are the desk drawers…

cam dresser 3

Here you can see them put together. So. Darn. Fun! My part was done and it was time to deliver and load in the room.

cam dresser

The girls chose their own pulls and knobs, bringing this dresser and desk makeover to a close. I love how they chose different ones – in different colors – giving it a cool, young, eclectic vibe.

I am sure if you asked Seester-in-law Stephanie what her favorite part of the dresser and desk makeover was, it would be that the girls have lots of new storage, but for me the best part was when Miss C saw the dresser and desk makeover and she said “Aunt Tammy did not disappoint!” Awwww…. it just doesn’t get better than making those sweet thangs happy!

Until next time….

Small Blue Chest

May 15, 2015 No Comments

Sm blue chest 11

OK… before I get started let me just say that if it rains here anymore I am gonna need some serious light therapy. Oh, and an arc… M’kay, maybe not an arc, but a really big boat!  And don’t even get me started on how hard it is to get a good picture! Thanks. Rambling at y’all is way cheaper than therapy.

Remember when I went to wash my car and instead I went to the neighborhood garage sale? Yeah… I am a lot little ADD.. Not only did I pick up the cute small chairs that you see here but I also scored a couple of chests of drawers. One of which I made into the cutest small blue chest!

sm chestThis is my three drawer chest. Before everyone starts yelling at me for painting this piece, it had a lot of scratches and needed a ton of repair on the drawers. It would never have been worth the time it would require to refinish it. But painting this small chest blue? It came to life.

Napoleonic Blue Table

For the past couple of years I have had this piece in my entry hall. Originally I wanted to paint it a bright color like a bright, shiny orange or red and put shelving above it to make a bar . Very eclectic, very cool. Before I could get started on that, my ADD kicked in again and I painted it Annie Sloan Napoleonic Blue and put it in my entry hall. I liked it – a lot.

Then I saw this small chest and knew that it would also be great in my entry. What’s a girl to do?

sm chest 2

I painted the piece and gave it a couple of coats a clear and dark wax. To make the details stand out I distressed them and then added some gold painted accents.

I love adding color to the exterior sides of drawers.  Every time you open the drawer it is like getting a really cool surprise. This time I painted the sides AS Pure White. Then stenciled and animal print in AS Napoleonic Blue. I liked it, but it seemed unfinished.

sm chest 6

Since I had put gold on the exterior, it just made sense to put it on the interior. I just outlined the stenciling. I loved that it gave it a more finished look.

Once that was done it was time to add the handles. To me the silver ones that were on it when I bought it were too modern and I am positive that they were not original to the chest. I had these pulls, that you see above, that came off of a chest of drawers that my sister repurposed. I gave them a coat of gold paint and they were perfect.

This small blue chest really fits this space perfectly. Of course y’all know I love navy – it is my favorite color! The fact that it has storage is a big bonus too. I mean, can we ever have enough storage?

I love changing things up. It always makes me feel like I have a brand new space. Hmm… what can I change up next?

Until next time….

Adding Gold to the Office

Office 1.7

If you have been following along you know that I have been slowly giving my office a tiny makeover. It is in no way done, but I thought that I would go ahead and share what I’ve done so far, as the list of what I want to get done is getting larger. For years the office was a beautiful, soothing grey- blue, black and white.  I still love those colors but thought it was time for another color to come into the design to give it a little pop! I decided that adding gold to the office was the perfect solution!

Office stool 1

I already shared with you how I gave my office stool and upgrade here. After I added the gold to the chair it was like I was a spider monkey jacked up on Mountain Dew! I couldn’t stop myself..in fact, if I hadn’t run out of spray paint I might still be going.

office 1.6

This is one of the sconces that are on either side of my bulletin/chalkboard. I still like the scones – yes, they are a bit girly, but it’s one of the few rooms here at the castle that isn’t primarily part of man land! Not sure what I was thinking with the zebra paper….definitely time for it to go.

office 1.5

I just added some gold glitter to the candles and some rub and buff to the sconce. Girly much? Oh, yeah!

Office 1.3

Next came my shelving. These shelves are primarily for all of my Queenly photos. I keep thinking that I am going to pare it down a bit but I love looking at my family and the Queens, so for now it is organized chaos! There are three shelves. I added gold to each in a different pattern.

office1. 1

I love organization… not saying  everything gets organized like I Martha, but a girl can dream! These plastic bins are under my worktable. Even though they are hidden behind curtains, I still like the idea of opening that curtain and finding a pretty surprise.  I also am a closet label freak.  Hey, don’t judge! Ya gotta know where everything lives.

office 1.2

This was so darn easy it is almost embarrassing to even post about it. I took out the clear drawers and grabbed a can of Rustoleum Gold Metallic and went to town. Great thing was, it dried almost instantly and I did it on a high humidity day. I think all three took maybe thirty minutes start to finish.

Office 1.9This buffet/storage was already black, but it had bits of paint from who knows where all over it. Apparently I am a messy painter and this was definitely proof! It has had many lives and been many colors in the years that I have had it, and it definitely had been painted a few times before I got it, so I didn’t want to add more paint to it. Instead, I gave it a light distressing and spay painted the drawer pulls metallic gold. So little effort for such a big difference in the room.

As you can see I didn’t add any one large thing in the gold, but chose to add little bits of gold through out the room. Subtle little pieces that as a whole pack a lot of punch. Plus, none of these projects actually took a lot of time or skill, so anyone can do it. Trust me.

I still have a few more projects to finish before I share the entire room with you. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will have it done. Fingers crossed!

Until next time…

Hannah’s Dress-up Armoire

Han 9Lately I have been so blessed to be able to paint a few projects for my family. I truly love being able to do that – it is so darn fun! I can’t wait to share with you Hannah’s dress-up armoire.

dresser 1

If you saw my last post about Diva Dog Beds, you know that my friend Shelli gave me this really cute dresser. Score! This was a great dumpster find. After talking with our niece Rachel, who told me that she needed storage for her daughter Hannah’s dress-up clothing, I knew that this would be the perfect piece for that. So grab a drink and sit back while I show you the before (above) and after!

Han 7

After removing all drawers and the drawer guides except for one, the amazing Hubs built in  a shelf above the bottom drawer. As you can see we left one drawer because a princess needs a place for her crowns, glass slippers and jewels! Duh! A couple of coats of cream paint and then the fun painting began.

Han 5

On the inside of the armoire a large damask medallion on the back is the focal point – so girly!!!! Polka-dots in three different colors flank either side. The hanging rod was painted gold because a princess has to have a little bling!

Han 1

A harlequin pattern on the side just screams “look at me!”

I took old drawer pulls and mounted them onto dowel rods to make hooks that were mounted on one side of the armoire. Can’t you just see boa’s and necklaces hanging here?

Han 6

And what princess can live without “a mirror, mirror on the wall?”   Love, Love, Love this mirror!

Han 3

When the princess opens the drawer to get her glass slippers and crown she has to look at something pretty, so we painted the inside of the drawer a dark pink. The sides got a flower “wallpaper” treatment.  Even the Queen would love such pretty drawers!

Han 2

And last but certainly not least we painted Princess Hannah’s royal crest on the top of her armoire. A sweet floral garland around the edge finishes the top off. Simple and sweet.

Han 7

There you have it… even I can’t believe the before pictures compared to the after ones. I’m not gonna lie, this took a little time to paint, but I believe the after pictures prove that it was worth it.  Now if Princess Hannah loves it as much as I do then I will be on cloud nine!

Until next time…..
